    Default Treo 650 & T-Mobile & software update

Does anyone have any experience with the following...

I am using an unlocked GSM Treo 650 with T-Mobile service in NYC. My Treo's current software is v. 1.06. It's been a bit buggy lately and I thought that I should look into updating the phone's software. I checked with the Palm website, and there was not enough information to verify whether or not my model required an update. I contacted Palm via email and in their generic response back to me, they said, yes, I should update to v. 1.2. I called T-Mobile to verify this, and they wouldn't answer my question because the 650 is not supported by T-Mobile. My concern is that should I upgrade my software to 1.2 and should it not be compatible with T-Mobile, there is no going back.

Any info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you own an unlocked Treo 650, then you shouldn't have any trouble updating. I would just be sure to back up all of your data via HotSync. You can find more information on how to upgrade at Palm's site.

Does your Treo have any carrier branding? I ask this because of this note on Palm's site of issues occuring after update:

Smartphone appears to be locked to carrier after update completed
    • Updaters from Palm have no effect on the subsidy lock state of your smartphone.
    • The person from whom you purchased your formerly-owned Treo smartphone may have misrepresented or masked the lock state of the phone to inflate the sale value. We recommend that you contact the seller.

I also noticed Palm has a handy "What To Do After The Update for Unlocked Treo 650 Owners".
