treo 650 calendar and contacts

I just upgraded to the 650 (gsm) from the tungsten e - while it is a huge leap overall I really miss the ability to assign contacts to my calendar events. for example, in the tungsten e to have lunch at 11:30 with my friend John Doe, I would set an event for 11:30 and then be able to look up in the contacts list to find John Doe and associate it with this new event - I am sure this can be done with the 650 but I would love to know how
