Default Treo 650 Carrier Question

I'm hoping to get a Treo 650 in the near future...I do have a question...do you HAVE to subscribe to your service's internet package in order to use the phone and PDA functions? I don't need constant access to the internet or my email on the go...I've got my laptop. The biggest reason I want a Treo is to combine a PDA and my cell phone. I use Cingular service. Thanks!

I don't know if Cingular requires you to subscribe to data with a Treo. I remember a post awhile back that one of the carriers requires it with one. If they don't, you can just activate the phone with a standard cellular plan and still access the PDA functions of the 650. With such a capable device, however, you're sort of selling yourself short by not utilizing it to its fullest. It just may enable you to leave the laptop at home sometimes.

Cingular doesn't require you to get the data plan, or at least they didn't when I got mine. Get the $20 MEdiaNet unlimited, and you won't be sorry. As kdallen said, you'll be able to ditch your laptop at least some of the time. I haven't used my laptop at all now in over 6 months. I just don't need it anymore.
