I recently upgraded from a (gasp!) Palm IIIC (yes, the first color palm ever made) to a Treo 650 Cingular. Over the years I continually upgraded the palm desktop software even though I did not upgrade the actual PDA. Never had a problem until I tried to upgrade to the software provided with the Treo 650 Cingular kit.

Existing data from Palm desktop transferred fine to Treo device, but after hot sync process the Palm desktop would not open. Windows XP error message states that there was an error and the software needs to close. This happened on my work laptop and personal laptop, both running XP.

Error Signature
AppName:palm.exe AppVer:4.1.4.0
ModName: mfc42.dll
ModVer: 6.0.8665.0 Offset: 00004045

It offers a debug option that does not initiate any action. it simply closes down the error message and desktop software.

Note: I hate Outlook but did a hot sync there to see if it would work and it did. Why won't Palm Desktop work?

Any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated.
