Treo 650 Clicking static during calls?
I have searched the forums and gone through all sorts of troubleshooting with Verizon, so maybe the time has come to post on here. You guys all know so much more about Treos than Verizon support.
I am now on my 3rd Treo 650 since late March. The 1st one had an echo problem, and after messing with the volume on the phone, doing a soft reset and eveuntually a hard reset, the problem persisted. Verizon sent me a new one and the problem started occuring again, only this time with a horrible clicking noise on some of the calls. It was happening maybe 1-2x every 10-12 calls, and sometimes it was on my end, sometimes on the receiver's end. Never both at the same time. Verizon had me do a hard reset again and not sync the phone. They thought the problem could be corrupt info being put back on the phone. After almost a week, I thought I was in the clear. Nope. It started clicking again....it almost sounds likehard static and clicking at the same time. I have my 3rd Treo now and the problem is still happening, but I have been told that generally when it isn't clicking, the sounds quality has been better on this phone than my other two. HELP! It has to be something I'm doing, right?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help and suggestions.

Smart Phone Idiot
I am shooting in the dark here, but this clicking/static sound . . . . Does it happen in the same places, or is it good say in your kitchen now, and the next call in the kitchen includes the clicking??? Just wondering if its interference from something.
also, I have experienced some clicking occasionally with my bluetooth headset when I am maybe 12 feet from it. Not always, but on occasion. Its a static click, and not just random static . . . This probably doesn't help, but I thought it worth a shot . .

I wondered if the problem could have been from my wireless keyboard and mouse, but I have gotten it at home, in my parking garage, at work. I can't seem to find a pattern to it...or to whether the person on the other end hears it or if I hear it. The noise is so bad that the person experiencing it can't even hear what the other is saying!
I don't have any additional applications on the phone since the hard reset, so it isn't a software compatibilty issue....any other ideas? Thanks for the help!

Are you using a Bluetooth headset?
-
Nope, not using bluetooth headset. Actually, when I have used headsets (bluetooth and wired) the sound quality is better than with the phone itself!

I think I have had it with this phone!
I'm ready to throw in the towel now. Not only am I still having noise issues (3rd Treo 650 since March), but I also can't seem to get HotSync to complete sychronization! It gets hung up on the Calendar when syncing with Outlook, so the contacts never get synced! Am I the only person who has so many problems with the damn thing? Any suggestions on other good PDA phones? Everything I read gives Treo the best reviews, but mine sucks!!!

I wonder if the not syncing and the noise are connected in some way. Do you get a hotsync log to check what is hanging up the sync? If not...
You might see which device has the most up todate contacts and delete the other devices contacts. Do a sync(besure to set sync for the device with the contacts to overwrite the other device)
You might be able to have one device overwrite the other without deleteing the contacts. I would try this first.

I tried setting the HotSync to do nothing for the calendar, and then it was able to get to the contacts to sync. Still can't get through an entire sync with calendar and contacts. The calendar just says it's syncing for hours!
I talked to the data services people at Verizon AGAIN and they are going to send me a new phone (I didn't realize they were sending me refurbished units for the last two phones). I doubt that will help, since it is an unlikely coincidence that I have had the same problem with 3 different phones. If the 4th has the same problems I think they will allow me to select a different phone to exchange. Wish me luck!

It sounds like you have a event the treo does not like. I read here on a different thread that the poster deleted some old events and everything started working. Not sure how many you have but you might go through and manually enter them, then override.
If you get a new install cd, I would delete the program and reinstall it with the new disc.

Update on my phone issues
Well, Verizon just sent me a new phone (not refurb) and surprise, they sent me a 700p! I'm excited and hopeful because at least this is a different phone and may not have the issues I was having before.
I still had to do a few annoying work arounds to get outlook to sync. I think my problem is that my calendar is HUGE and it just takes so long that it never finished syncing the calendar. So I end up canceling it and the events are on the Treo. Strange. Then I have to go to customize for the settings for HotSync and tell it to do nothing for calendar so it skips that part next time I sync and gets to contacts. Has anyone else had to do this???
I had my first clicking noise call day two owning the phone. Today. I am going to document where I am when it occurs, who I am talking to and which person hears it. Maybe this will help me determine if it is a provider issue, interference, whatever. It can't be the phone at this point, but I never had this problem with my LG that I had with Verizon before getting the Treo. If anyone has any other ideas, experiences, or suggestions, please let me know!
Thanks!
