System Tools or Repair Treo 650 Crash/ Help me...please

    Problem:foot:

When I recharge my 650 and of course when it has fully recharged the green steady light stays on. I go and try to turn the phone on and nothing happens. It doesn't power on or nothing. No power, nada. The green light just stays on. Of course I do a soft reset and it awakens and everything is fine throughout the day. Sometimes it gets stuck during the day and I soft reset. Which of course it annoying. I looked in the 377 system log and it says a crash occurred on 1/1/03 @12am "Unknown App". Can somebody help. It wasn't doing this until recent.

    Last downloads:

Treo650 updater on Palm site. treo650-1.20-ENA.
    LED off app.
    Radio OFF app.
    DST update on Palm Site.

    Hi Thurman:

I see you had some recent downloads listed. Did this start right after any of those were installed, especially the led off, radio off and the Treo uodater?

You might want to delete the third party apps and run the Treo for a few days to see if that clears it up. If so, add the third party apps one at a time to see if you can identify the problem.

Do you have other third party apps that might not be playing nice with the newer additions?

I did a Hard reset yesterday and everything was ok...At least until this morning. I Had the phone on the charger all night and when I went to get it this morning I had to soft reset. No response from any of the buttons...nothing. So I had to soft reset. However I did after the hard reset yesterday installed Led off(I have it on the SD). It is not on the internal memory of the Treo650.

Come to think of it, it did start after the treo650gsm updater.:laugh3:

    Thurman:

You indicate you put ledoff back into action, but that it is on the SD card. I am not a Treo expert, but I believe that is the type of program that has to be in the Treo memory in order to work. When you start the program it is probably moved into the device memory in order to function.

I believe that in order to track this down you have to strip all except the out-of-the-box programs that came with your Treo. The device should be used strictly as a phone for a few days to see if it is stable. That would include not doing a sync in case you have a corrupted file in the back-up and it is just moved back to the device.

After running a couple of days and there are no resets, then begin to reload your programs one at a time. After loading one, run a day or two to see if it stable and only then add a second and so on.

Once you do an updater I don't think that can be reversed to go back to what you originally had.

Hopefully someone more technically proficient can give you better guidance.

FWIW, I had a similar experience with LEDoff several months ago and uninstalled it on my 650.

I have not experienced any problems with LEDOff although I have it installed in RAM. It takes up only 24K of RAM.

Just like others have mentioned, you have to test your Treo out back in its original factory conditions. Make sure you rename your Backup folder in the computer. Personally I do a zero out reset since many times a hard reset doesn't necessarily wipe everything out and reset it back to factory conditions as well as renaming my entire HotsyncID folder (c:\program files\palm\yourhotsyncid ) to something else like yourhotsyncid-old or whatever else. That way, you can be assured that nothing will be re-loaded back into your Palm device since hotsync is somewhat of a crappy backup program as well.

I tried something different. I am hoping it will work for good. On my 650 I disabled the keyguard function. It hasn't crashed since. I got my fingers crossed. I think the Keyguard is in the preference on the 650. I have done some research and have found that this is a wide spread problem among treo users. I hope they address this issue

    Hi thurman:

I must say, this is the first I ever recall hearing the Keyguard mentioned as causing conflicts.

I hope this does resolve your trouble. If it doesn't, one other item I recall being noted as a problem is the "Enable Local Network Time" option. If you continue to experience trouble, check to see if that option is enabled. If that is checked try unchecking to see if improvement is noted.

    Good luck,
    SteveTaz
