Treo 650 FAQ? - I want to switch to one.
Is there a FAQ on the Treo 650?
Here are a number of questions I have about it:
I have heard that some providers have somehow disabled the use of WiFi using the SD port and others have not. I'm with Sprint right now, but can get a big discount on buying a Treo 650 if I move to another carrier (Stupid them!). What carriers have users been able to do their own WiFi at home to their own wireless LANs? (saves wireless service charges - minutes)
What is the largest SD memory card the unit will support? 1GB?
There are two different digital systems (GSM and something else) and the Treo is available in versions for both (carrier dependent). Does anyone know if one has a significant advantage over the other (goes to carrier choice)?
My close eyesight is not really good. Can the Treo 650 be configured to show fewer characters that are LARGER? Like the incomming phone number or caller?
Can the ring-tones be downloaded independently? (not governed and charged for by the carrier) Can they be MP3 files? If not, what format?
I have heard that the battery life is better on Palm OS units than PocketPC (I have a Toshiba and can atest to this!) What sort of battery life are users experiencing in real-world use? Like a few calls a day, a little PDA use, etc.
Thanks!

questions
Hello hughem,
This is Kevin from palmOne. I can answer some.
Currently, regardless of carrier, the Treo 650 does not support wifi. There may be a third-party wifi "sled" released in the future, but I haven't heard anything about it lately.
The largest card supported by the Treo 650 is 2 GB.
I know you can make the font one size larger and make it bold in the Calendar, Contacts, Memos, Messaging, and Tasks applications. Some third-party applications may also allow for this.
You can find info on this in the User guide, which you can download for free from here. Pick the model of your choice from the drop-down menu and you'll find links to the user guides along the right side of the page you're lead to (you'll find links to FAQs here, as well).
About ringtones, yes, you can download, this page should help answer your questions.
My suggestion is to go to one of the carrier stores and check out the device, ask questions, and see what you think.
Hope that helps.
Sincerely
Kevin
