Question * Treo 650 GPS questions

Sorry if this is a noob question...tried doing a search but failed.

Im looking at buying a GPS for the Treo. My carrier (Fido-Canada) does not do data/online.

    1) Do I need to be connected online to use the GPS?

    2) Any additional charges to use it?

    3) When I move out of the country to US and get a different carrier and hardware... can I still use the Treo as a standalone GPS?

There should be no data charges for the gps. It gets its position from sat. not the internet so you do not have to be on line. I believe the maps you download from your pc off the disc provided so no data charges there. Yes the treo will work as a stand alone or a regular pda without service.

I would see if the software version on the ebay gps is the latest available if that is important to you.

Looks like TomTom 5 software and maps. Probably a bit dated, but TomTom software is excellent. Great POI's and mapping. At this price, it looks to be a great deal.

As the previous poster mentioned, you will not have to use data. In fact, I would at times turn off my wireless service as to not interfere with the mapping. The Treo 650 can only manage one Bluetooth device, so you'd need to use a wired headset if you're using the Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Here's a review of TomTom Navigator which uses the same software as the unit you are considering.

The price is very good. I think the new packages come with a card with everything installed on the card. (I may be wrong here)

It is refurbished not new. Depends on what warrenty is offered with the unit. Might not be the latest newest version of tomtom. but it looks like a good deal.
