TREO 650 Hardware - Treo Forums

I know that the TREO 650 comes internally with a motherboard and a daughter board (which is smaller, and is the carrier module (GSM or CDMA).

I was wondering if anybody knew if I would use a Verizon monther with a GSM daughter board. Would it work for GSM?

That's an interesting question... And I have no idea how to really answer that other than, it's probably not worth the immediate risk. As far as I'm aware of, the daughter boards you speak of are assembled together with the actual mother boards they will be paired with, so they could very well be carrier specific. Especially because whole lines of the phone are made for specific carriers.

Let me look into it a bit and see if I can figure it out. That'd be interesting to know.

FRom whatI remember of watching a video on screen replacement I only remember one board which can be replaced.

Yeah, exactly. The thing I think that he's talking about is the component that either, 1) is cdma, or 2) uses a sim card (GSM). From what I remember, those components are pretty solidly connected to the motherboard, so much so, that they really seem to be a part of the board itself. I havn't had a chance to really open a couple up, though, to check it out because I'm moving.

You are correct, about the small daugher board that is either GSM or CDMA. They are not however soldered to the mother board, but rather attached by 2 very small phillips screws. When unscrewed they lift of a connector which is part of the mother board.

I was told by someone who did it and it worked for Treo 650. I have not been able to try yet since I have not found a bad ESN board with a good mother board yet. I will try soon and I can give you info at that time.
