Same issue here. Infinite sync loop, cannot get out of it. Cannot turn phone on or off, as the sync window keeps popping up.
Hard reset had no affect.
I am posting this almost a year later than the other posts... has Palm still not figured this out yet.

I'm also having this problem on a Treo 680. It's a shame. I really like my Treo. I use it to listen to podcasts and I even purchased a few ebooks for eReader.
I haven't found a solution and I've pretty much lost faith in Palm.

I believe there is a zero out reset also that may help you

HotSync Loop & Zero-Out Reset
I'm reluctant to do a hard reset or zero-out reset. This is mostly because of my eReader books. I don't have the credit card that I used to buy them any more and that's what it needs to re-activate them if I reload them.
I know... I should've done a proper backup :foot:
Of course, if it's a choice between a sync loop and losing those ebooks, I'll lose the ebooks.
For now, I've done what mytreo.net calls a warm reset. It seems to have fixed the problem. At mytreo.net it says that a warm reset is equivalent to safe mode in Windows and I might not have all functions. If I do another soft reset, the problem returns.
- What's missing?
- Where do I look to see what's running at start-up? At mytreo.net, they mention the "377 error log", but they don't elaborate on that page. I'll keep looking
