Treo 650 locks up Sony VIAO TR3A - Treo Forums

Installed the sync software from a new Treo 650 on the Sony VAIO TR3A laptop. When I sync by pushing the button on the USB plug, the sync happens (test appointment on the Treo gets put on the Desktop and test appointment on the Desktop gets put on the Treo) but the Laptop locks up. The box which normally shows on the computer screen shows up, but freezes - doesn't have the arrows moving and doesn't progress from "Identifying User" or whatever it is it does first. The Treo behaves normally, "cleans up" and goes to sleep. Laptop has to be rebooted.

Any advice would be appreciated. I've had a 650 for six months and love it - this is a new one I just bought for my wife and which I am trying to install to sync with her laptop.

Usually it's the other way around. Are you installing the software that came with your new Treo? If so, check the Palm site and make sure you have the latest and greatest version of Palm Desktop.

I used the software which came with the Treo, and it has an option to get the updates, which I had it do.

I think the problem might have come from an attempt to sync to the prior user. My wife had used a Palm Vx for many years. The initial sync was to her user name. The installer attempted to install the old programs which came with the Palm Vx, such as girafe, a graffiti training game. On the first sync, there was a message about applications that wouldn't install, and several programs were moved to a folder for inappropriate applications. Perhaps the attempt to install them caused the problem.

I'll try ininstalling everything on the desktop, hard resetting the Treo, and beginning again.
