Default Treo 650 'Other CDMA' Not flashing to Verizon?

I just bought a Palm1 Treo from a friend, it was on altel network, verizon before that. Now im trying to activate the phone on my verizon plan and the verizon people said the ESN is not found and they said i need to flash it to a verizon software. I tried that but its saying its Incompatible. I cant get it to activate for anything. the first four digits of my serial are PTGC which im told is the 'generic CDMA' which can be activated and flashed to Verizon, Alltel, and Cingular. I hope somone has some idea of what i can do to get this thing programmed to my verizon service!

Hi and welcome to ET:

What is the software version currently installed? Is it Altel? The first four digits you provided are a generic one if they are the first four of the ESN in the Treo, under the battery, is that what it is?

Where did you get the Verizon software you are trying to flash and are you sure it is for the 650? Historically, VZW will not activate a phone they do not have in their database. How will flashing the ROM solve that? I have never done this so I am asking out of ignorance.

Will techs in a VZW store assist? Have you tried that?

If you must have this device on the VZW network, perhaps one of the unlocking services can make the alteration you need, but they will charge for it.

BTW...You mentioned Cingular as a possible, but I believe their network (AT&T) is GSM and not compatible.

Sorry I can't offer more. Perhaps someone else will jump in......
