    Default Treo 650 Purchase Question

Hi, Im buying a new Treo 650. So far the pics ive seen of the treo on the net are all full silver bodys. But the shop guy here told me that the unit i will get in 2 days from now has got the mid blue oceanic faceplate trim around the scren area. Its basically blueish and silver dual toned unit. When i surfed online i noticed that only the cingular versions come with that color. Am i wrong ? Are there normal unlocked gsm phones that also come in blue and silver color combo ? I hoping to buy my new treo and thereby join the community. Ive been a T3 user for the past 3 years. Also if the ingular one is what i get. Will it work well like gsm phone without any sevice tie up. Afer i buy it i dont want to find out that there are deactivated or limited features that will only work with cingular. Looking forwrd to your replies. Thanks.

    Hi:

I can't answer the question of who has what color, but what is the phone being sold listed as, locked or unlocked? They should be stating if it is a branded phone that has been unlocked or an unbranded one.

Sounds like you are dealing with someone locally. Before you hand over the cash what name or brand do the splash screens display when starting up? What is the software version it is running? If the suffix is CNG that would make it a Cingular phone. Find this while in the phone screen press Menu > Options > Phone Info and look for Software: _________. Mine is Sprint and it reads Treo650-1.13a-SPNT

All the service providers do make their own changes enabling and disabling features as they see fit for their own branded phones.

    Hope this helps,

My Treo 650 is a Sprint and it is the medium blue body with silver side plates and a silver face plate around the screen, I think it is a very classic color combo.

Hey Steve, you are really on the ball and have an excellent memory! Yes, my beloved 650 has been inherited by my DH, but I keep my eye on it

I have a cingular branded phone that matches the original description. Maybe it is an unlocked one. Where are you getting from?

    Hi thanks.

Im buying this locally from an importer whos got some units in india. My question is mainly,, if it has CINGULAR printed on it. Yet he says it will work in india with normal gsm sim cards is this true. Or will i have problems with any phone features. In other words when buying it if i try it with my gsm sim card and it works perfectly in making calls and sending sms etc can i pick it up without worry ? I hope there wont be any feature/interface changes in any other pda features. Because im used to a T3 and i want all the basic pda features as they were. Plus the different types of ring tone for numbers in the phone book etc. etc
