Question Treo 650 Re-sets when I Switch to Call Log

I am by no means a master treo user, and I have never blogged before in my life, but I am at my wits ends, everytime I scroll over on the main page and click to go to call log the phone totally resets itself and acts like I used the stick to push that button in the back. Help anyone Im lost.

Hi StreetDog:

Welcome to ET.

Can you give us some background such as have you had the Treo for some time and this just started, is your Treo brand new and it is doing this out of the box, which carrier do you use, etc?

Also very important is what software do you have on your device? Have you done any trials of third party software, do you have any third party software on the Treo now, did this start after installing anything new, etc? Are all other aspects of the device working properly? Have you had any problems with resetting before, even if random?

This information would be a good starting point..

Thanks for your help Steve:

It was happening on my old 650 so I took it in and they replaced the unit about a month ago and almost immedaitly it too started doing the resetting. I use sprint and I believe I have the 1.3 v software on it. I have not added any software to the phone. It on rare occasions will rest itself but not very often.

By any chance when you got the new unit, did you restore your old files, settings, etc.?

It is possible you had a corrupted file and have now moved it to the new Treo through the backup process.

If so I would suggest you perform a hard reset, which will erase all your data. Make sure you keep the backup folder. You might want to rename it to OLD...to insure you won't lose it, but you also won't reinstall by accident either.

After wiping it clean, use the phone for a day or two to see if it resets. If not, your hardware is probably okay. Then you may want to selectively start to restore data while testing for a day after each restoration. Eventually you will track down where the corrupted file might be....Assuming that is what the problem is.

I am also hoping one of the Treo gurus might chime in and point out if there is a specific way to isolate a corrupted file or to possibly perform a database repair if that exists in the Palm world.

I hope this is of help.

My 650 (Cingular GSM) was a rest fanatic. Easily 10-12 times per day. I tried custom ROMS, Palm Internals, all kinds o things. No help. Then I tried Resco Locker (freeware). I installed it in the default coniguration as stated in the readme file. I have had two resets now in two weeks!

kenweise:

I am glad you had luck with that and I am curious what version your Cingular software is?

Certainly sounds like you had a huge turnaround and that has to be a relief.
