Default Treo 650 service Verizon vs. Sprint

I plan on purchasing a new Treo 650 this week, but I don't know which service provider to go with. I have heard many great things about Verizon, with their large network and service in most cities. Sprint from what I have read on this forum has great web access. I am looking to be able to have service in most major cities across the country and still have great web access. I just need some input as to which provider is better.

    Default SprintPCS

I have always used SprintPCS. I have had no problems with them. It has always worked well even down in the Islands such as (Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) when I had been cruising. I have never used any other service so I cannot compare them for you.
    Best regards,

Default Treo 650 as a Phone

Also, if anyone could give me some insight into if the Treo 650 has more drop calls vs. "traditional non-smartphones". A friend of mine who had a Treo 650 said he hated it and switched to a "traditional" cell phone because he had more drop calls with it. Thank You!

I rarely if ever experience dropped calls. I'd say it's more related to the wireless provider than the phone. Is a Motorola Razor going to be better at being a traditional cellphone than the Treo? -- maybe?

That being said, there are too many things the Treo offers for me to ever go back to a "traditional" cellphone. Movies, email, web, organizer, games...the list goes on.

I'd go with Sprint - $15 for unlimited data. I've had Sprint before (with my Treo 300) and was very happy with coverage.

Yes Sprint does have a good data package compared to Verizon. Going with Sprint I would be saving $30-$40 a month rather then going with a comparable package from Verizon. The main feature I like about Verizon is their network coverage.

    Default Verizon vs. Sprint

I'd drop Sprint for Verizon in a heartbeat were it not for Verizon's high charges for Web access.

I've been a VZ customer for quite some time. A business partner has been a Sprint customer for quite some time. There has been only one case where he was able to access the network when I wasn't (we were in the middle of a lake fishing when his phone rang). More than once he's had to borrow my phone to make a call.

I'm willing to pay $1/day extra for that. YMMV. ;)

As his company has standardized on Sprint (I'm self employed), he doesn't have the luxury of switching.

By the way, I picked up my first Treo this weekend. VZ has a program called Merits that allows existing customers to get a new phone every year for their lowest, two-year price; I paid $200. The bar to be a Merits customer isn't high, if you're an existing customer, call their CS and ask about it.

    Default Go with GSM provider

How about going with a GSM provider. that way you have the standard which the rest of the world follows rather than going with CDMA or some other....

im in the same situation as you. I do not knwo who to pick. Sprint, Verizon or even Cingular.

is sprints $15 data service as good as Verizon's $45 data service. and is it that big of a difference to pay that much more per month?

Please let me know if you decided on which one you choose and why?
