Exclamation Treo 650 sound quality on video?..

    Hi,
I got my 4th Treo 650 today from Verizon. Brief history about the other 3 I recently returned...

    # 1. camera was defective.
    # 2. video totally distorted.
    # 3. terrible phone quality and dropped calls.

I am persistent ..so today, I got # 4. While still in the parking lot of Verizon, I checked out my new Treo. Everything seemed great..till I tried the video with sound. The sound quality is very poor. I went back into the store and the manager said that for that type of phone, it's normal. I asked her to log into my account and put exactly what she said for the record. I cannot believe the sound would be so bad for the video. Is this truly normal for a treo?...

Otherwise, this Treo is working great, the camera/video takes great picture, the sound quality/reception is great on the phone. Am I being too picky, cuz I want the sound to be clear on the videos?..I just want a Treo that works ...

    Thanks,
    Misty

Just curious, what video did you play and where did you get it? It's possible the issue may have been with that particular file. As a general rule (I've only been a Treo owner for 2 months, some others might have more feedback), the sound quality should have been pretty good. I've been watching movies since right after getting my 650 and I'm very pleased with the sound quality. Have you tried any mp3's yet?

Oh, I made several short video clips (is that what you call them?) while in Verizon's parking lot with the camcorder feature. I tried again several times tonight and the picture quality is great but my voice sounds terrible and the audio also has lots of crackling noises. I am such a newbie, I don't even know how to get the mp3's. Also i need to buy a memory card...any suggestions?.. Thanks for your help.. misty

I've made a few video recordings on my 650 and the sounds were pretty decent. Picked up my voice-overs and surrounding sounds ok. You may have a problem with the input but you'll want to play something else to nail it down. If you do a search here, you'll find some threads with step-by-step instructions on getting movies, using mp3's as ringtones or just listening to mp3's. I suggest you try some of those and see if your output's ok with those. If that's the case, it would seem your problem is in your mic when you're making recordings.

As for cards, check out the store on this site. Also, you can get good deals at your local Best Buy or places like that.

    Default recording vid

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a similar problem...

When I try to record video clips the audio is just terrible. It's worse than recording audio into a voicemail(say music for example). Espically sounds/music that is at a loud volume. Is there any way to control that? 3rd party app or anything?

    Hi Eric,
I just finished talking to both Verizon and Palm about my audio issue.
Palm did have me do a hard reset..also I recorded a (ring tone message)
to see how the audio was on that compared to the video clip. The quality
was just as bad and I when I played it back, Palm heard it and agreed it was defective.
There is nothing that can be done to fix it, so Verizon is going to replace
    my new Treo.

    To record a ring tone

    1. Go to Pref
    2. Sounds & Alerts
    3. Click on Tones..at the botton of that screen
click New...you can now record a ring tone message!
    How cool is that?..

Try to record a message and see how the quality is there...
