Default Treo 650 Verizon does not turn on wireless mode

I try to installed the the updater 1.05a in my Verizon Treo 650. When the installation was almost done suddenly there was an error on the screen and the upater was not installed. I try to installed the updater again but the phone just started to loop.

I call Palm support and they told me to do hard reset on the phone and try to start the update process again. Now not only I do not have the update but my phone does not want to turn on wireless mode. Do I missing or have a corrupt file in the treo? In Palm they told me that I have a hardware problem and that I have to send the phone to them and pay $169 to have it repair.

Can someone please help me.

Thanks

Have you tried doing a warm reset? I don't know the age of your Treo, but if I were out of contract, I might consider moving on to a 680 with Cingular providing you are out of contract . . . Just a thought but looking at $$$ alone, You can get the 680 for like $49 being a new customer with Cingular through different promotions. With more memory and smaller shell! Of course, if Cingular is not very well covered in your area, then suddenly, $170 doesn't look too bad . . .

The abortive update may have fried your Treo's radio routine. If the ROM was modified, no hard reset will change that (a hard reset looks to the ROM to restore factory content. I suggest the following:
1. Perform a Zero Out Reset, then a Factory Reset. Palm instructions here.
2. Do not turn on the wireless radio (you must have it turned off anyway to perform the 1.05 upgrade).
3. Perform the 1.05 upgrate with a freshly downloaded upgrader file. Get the file onto your Treo via a HotSync with only the install conduit enabled. Make sure the Treo is plugged in to the power adapter, and your laptop as well if you're using one.

If this doesn't work, I'd bite the bullet and take Stillrockin's advice.

Good luck!

-K

I had the same problem. I was told that I should try to reinstall 1.03 or 1.04. Unfortunately I can not find those updates at Palm and they won't help. Do you have thes files by any chance.

the only thing I would say is maybe if you reinstall the software off the cd but that maynot have anything to do with the rom. You probaly need to contact verizon.

Did you see the thread warning about the verisonupdater. If you did not it says you allmost have to have the treo plugged in to the charger to get the update. I would do that and try installing again.

Don't worry I had the exact problem.
1.Download the 1.05 version over again.
2.Make sure your phone is turned on before the next step
3.Reinstall it on the treo and if i can remember correctly do not do a hard reset and just turn the phone off, then back on. The phnoe will automaticaly do a reset. It should be alright after that.
I'm pretty sure that's what I did but it was acting just like you were describing so don't worry just be patient and do the long download and reinstall til it works play around with the steps that's what I did. Sorry I couldn't remember the exact steps.
4.

Default Stuck in Updating Hell

Hi.
I've owned my 650 for just about a year now and have loved it. It's had its occasional flukes but nothing I couldn't live with. Recently I stopped receiving e-mail on my phone so finally decided to set aside some time, do a bunch of reading here, and find out what I need to do. Sounded like I first needed to install the upgrade, so I set off to do that. During the first attempt I had the ROM error, and from my reading I think I was told to disable or remove all third party software, do a back-up, and try again. I did, and this time I got stuck in the resetting loop. It just kept turning on and off over and over. I tried soft resets, hard resets, taking the battery out for a while, etc. I tried installing the update again. This time I got stuck in some Update E911 mode. It kept installing that, resetting, and installing it again, over and over. I've done more reading, done more hard resets, tried setting up a temporary account and working from there, etc. No luck. I now have a Treo that not only won't give me my e-mail, I can't even use it as a PHONE anymore! My phone will NOT turn on.

I guess my next plan of action is to try the zero-out reset? I'll go grab a coffee and take a break before I throw this through the window, but if anyone has any words of wisdom/advice for me I'll gladly listen. I'll check back here before I do anything drastic.
Sue
