Default treo 650 water trouble help!!!

    hi,
    am new here.
i recently bought a treo 650. Was pushed into the pool, in which my treo got completly wet.
I immediately took out the battery, 1 st day i dried it with a hair dryer from a distance. the water in the screen started drying up.
next day i wrapped it in a black cloth and put it in the sun. finally to make sure, i put the palm in my car on a hot day and left it to dry out. 3 days later on switching on it was perfect!!!

Now something like this happed all over again. but this time not in the pool but it fell from my pocket under a water shower from an underground water pump. I did the same thing as i did before.
The only difference is that this time the underground water is also very sandy.
So on switching ont he phone after day 3, it works fine, except for-
    1. the touch screen does not work any more. ( at the same time i feel maybe due to t he sand maybe the screen is getting touched constantly)
    2. for some numbers the phone just vibrates and it does not ring

    Please help.

    Hi Daeb:

Sounds like you may need to find a ziplock baggie to fit your phone and carry it around that way!

I have no idea about the ringer, but your guess about the screen being pressed due to sand could be correct. Sand may have gotten under the outer edges of the case around the screen. You might try GENTLY sliding the edge of a piece of paper under the edges of the screen frame to see if you can dislodge sand and/or dirt under there. However, if the sand is that fine, it may have gotten inside the phone as well as under the edges and you may not be able to reach it all. Also, if you have a screen protector on you may want to remove it in case sand is lodged under that too.

I hope it works out for you,

I was going to ask if you had a protective cover on the screen. If it ever works its way between the screen and the edge, it will make the screen not respond . .

Glad to hear that everything is good with the two water mishaps.

i had my treo in my shirt pocket today, an it was raining. I had the treo turned upside down in my pocket, because i had a wired earpiece in to listen to music. The phone didn't really that wet, it was just damp in my pocket, and afew drops of rain might have hit the place where you insert the data plug in. Well the phone starts saying its trying to make a hot sync connection to my desktop. it just keeps doing this over an over. i remove the battery for a few mins, put it back together, and its doing the same thing. I let the phone sit for a while, an it still does it some, but now the keypad will not work! the on key will work but the home key won't work and the only thing that will work right is the touchscreen. its been 8 hours since it got damp an it still won't work right. i have had the USB cable hooked up charging the treo thinking that the internal heat of the battery charging might just dry it out inside an fix the phone but no luck there! what should i do!

Keep it in Sun, use a blow dryer, etc. Many here have had really good luck just drying them out for a couple of days . . I would take thecover off and the Battery out and try to keep close to a heat source for a couple of days if it were me . .

Let us know if you have success or not

    Hi:

The common factor I see is that BEFORE trying to use any of the functions, two to three days of drying out is what seems to help the success of recovering from getting wet.

Stop trying to see if it works yet and give it two to three days with a blow dryer, in the sun, etc.

    Good luck,

Yep, victim here as well. Dropped mine in the sea. Fished it out, dried it out for a couple of days in the sun, and it worked again, but a couple of the buttons would not function. Then, it just quit again after a day or so. I've got it drying out some more right now, and praying it will be fine again.

Couple things from other forums though, for if you get your phone wet:
    1. Immideately remove the battery; electricity and water don't mix
    2. Someone suggested rinsing with water before drying, if it fell in salt water. I did not do this, but it seems to make sense.

    Other learning:
There is a small white dot in the back of our case, under the battery (top side). If the phone gets wet, it turns red. This tells Palm that you got it wet if you send it in for warranty work, so don't lie . Good thing to check too if you are buying a used one ;)!!

Finally, if it does start working again, but the keys are still inoperable, I'm thinking I will need to replace the keypad. I've seen them on ebay, but would like to know if anyone has ever done this, and if so, how hard/what all does it entail to do?
    Thanks in advance.

Don't know if the video clip resides here or else where but there was one with directions to change the screen and I think you had to disconnect the keyboard to do it. You might look at FAQ here or do a search for changing your screen. It did not look hard but there seems to be different parts that work with different 650s out there.

Might ask one of the on line repair shops also:wink:
