Default TREO headset jack

Has any one experienced any problems with the actual headset jack on the phone failiong to remain soldered to the board. I have and since the phone had a small crack in the case it voided the warranty. Cost of repair =$200. Now the same problem is occuring (While using headset it cuts out, load buzzing unless plug is held 100% still, unable to anwsere phone without headset because the phone thinks the headset is plugged in when it isn't) and Palm refuses to remedy the issue at this time without cost to myself.

Anyone with any issues of repair history and outcome... you're story would be welcome as well as any advice

You're in good company; this is an issue for which Treos have become notorious. If you're exasperated by your headphone jack, try this.

Well I've gotten the customer service people to forward my issue to "CORPORATE". Customer service initially said i'm responsible for all repair costs, then they told me 25% discount then 50% discount. I just don't feel i should have to pay for a headset jack repair every 10 months ( first repair= Nov, 2005... now same problem again) nor should one have to buy an aftermarket adapter to use the phone as it was designed, the adapter still uses the internal mic so the multiple $50.+ hybrid headsets i have will be useless.

yeah.. i'm gonna see what the suites have to say when they "contact me within 24 hrs." I could probably resolder the jack down myself with the right iron but.... don't wanna risk it. pretty close tolerances on the board. On the other hand palm has good software, it's too bad the hardware i.e. the case and the jack etc aren't as such. I've seen alot less expensive phones that are better constucted, aluminum cases and you dont have to worry about every little nick or bump. But i still love the TREO

Finally got in touch with Palm corporate customer srvice and they listened to my story and they gave me two options, 1. send it back to be fixed at no cost (2-3 weeks) or 2. they will send me a different phone and i send them current one once i confirm the new one is in good and functional. Both are at no cost to me.

knock on wood i haven't had problems with my jack yet, but if i were in your position i'd get the new phone and get a bluetooth headset because i just wouldn't be able to trust the jack anymore.

I would go for option #2 only if you can confirm that it is indeed a new phone and not a refurbed unit. Sometimes refurbs have more hours on them than the ones they are replacing. There are a lot of great refurbed units out there functioning great, but I would probably rather have my old Treo back with the jack fixed than to take a chance on a refurb.

according to them , i got a refurb when i paid for the first fix. either way i'll probably upgrade within the next 10 months or so the jack seems to hold up for anyhow.
