Treo vs. Blackberry compared
Since I am new to smartphone, I wonder if anyone could point me to a good Websource that offer a practical comparison between Treo and Blackberry?

Hmmmm... good web source. That would be here!
The Blackberry is more of a "down and dirty" email device that features push email. The Treo runs on the Palm OS - which allows you to run thousands of applications. This really provides a more robust tool and allows you to personalize your smartphone with apps that meet your needs.
And..Palm announced they will offer Blackberry functionality on the Treo.
Hope that helps..

Would it be safe to say that the Treo can act more as an extension to your computer?
Both provide email access, PIM functionality but beyond that the Treo serves as an extension to your PC through documents to go, etc.
I think the Blackberry has more finite applications where the Treo has significant potential for expansion.

Yes, that would be very safe to say. And with new 3rd party software being added, this becomes more true every day.
Mobi·gas·mic!

I agree, but If you are looking for a true expansion of a PC, the pocketpc OS is more robust. I used to think the Palm OS was more stable, but after experiencing at least 1.5 reboots and "WSOD" a day, I take that statement back... I still love the Treo650 for its funcionality when it does work. but Im getting fed up taking off my Speck Skin case everytime I have a WSOD.

I agreed with this up until the latest update for Windows Mobile software. WM5 is very unstable and sent me back to Palm OS. I was having to perform soft resets daily on my HP device and have only had to do so with my Treo twice in the month I've owned it.
Having to take the battery cover off is a hassle but until Microsoft gets the bugs out of WM software, Palm OS is moving to the head of the line in my opinion.

Well I haven't gotten the lastest version for my Dell x50v, but I definitely want to check it out though.

goodlink
I just got my 650 (Cingular) today, with something called Goodlink already configured by our brilliant IT guys. (Obivously I'm not very technical.) Anyhow, I don't know how the hell it works, but my 650 gets my emails before they pop up on my desktop, and all my appointments just show up on the 650 with no synching. Isn't that just like Push?

Push mail?
Chris, what's "push mail?" I can configure my 650 to get my mails every * minutes... is that similar to push mail? I can do it with either Versamail or Snapper.

Blackberry not as good
I went straight to my service provider and talked to a rep there. He said the clarity of sound was much better on the Treo than with Blackberry. He did say that many of his known clients also use another phone when using the Blackberry because it's not as good as just a phone as another cell phone. I suggest talking to a rep at your service provider, personally I am going for a Treo after talking to Verizon. Good Luck!!
