trouble with contact searching
I did try and search the forums first, but I couldn't find much similar to my latest dilemma. Here goes:
I've been putting tons and tons of contacts into my treo (I work in the hospitality industry, so it's a necessity), but I notice now that when I put a contact person's name with the name of their company, when I go to later search for the company, it will not come up.
For example: If I have "Smith, Ben" listed under the company "Engineer House", when I go to search through my contacts (or start typing 'eng') for Engineer House, the name won't come up (I have to type either 'Smi' or 'Ben'. I changed the contact settings to list it as "company, last name"; but unless I can remember the last name of the person, it doesn't always help. Often times, I will go to look for the company name, since thats what i always remember
Is there a way to fix this? Or is there a software out there that would better suit my needs? I'd be grateful for any advice/feedback. Thanks!

Hi:
Palm's global find works. While in contacts, press the Option key and then Shift/Find. Enter the company name.
Keep in mind this will search everything and returns results listed by application. Takes a moment too, but not long at all.
BeyondContacts, Agendus, Takephone, etc, are third party apps that can do many other things the built-in apps can't.
Let us know how this works out for you.

You Rock! Thank you!! That did the trick perfectly! (Admittedly I guess I still have a lot to learn about keyboard shortcuts, huh? :embarassed
It does search everything, but at first glance, it appears that in finding the company name, it will also show my appointments with that company, as well as link to google maps to map it out.... a bonus! Like you said, it does not take more than a second or two.
I will keep those other apps in mind, but if I can do without third-party, it's probably all the better for me!
Thanks again! I'm loving this little device more and more each day...heh

Glad it worked out well for you.
I also favor using what I have rather than adding programs for every whim I have for a moment.
I don't think the global find feature is a very well known one.

Take a try with TakePhone and 2Day from www.shsh.com/beta - they both search the contacts and work very well. Ben

it is interesting isn't it how few folk realise how good the search can be. the usual tips i would add are (as benjie said)to start the search IN the area/app you hope the answer lies otherwise it'll trawl thru' everything (else) before it gets to what you are really looking for.
additionally, if you want search to be able to do so in things like HanDBase and Doc2go you may have to actively change the preference.
