    Default Upgrade question to 755p

I'm just thinking down the road and wondering if I ever upgrade my 650, I was thinking about getting a 755p. Can anyone tell me if all my current apps on the 650 will be compatible on the 755p and can I sync with the same Palm Desktop? I really like the extra storage and the better camera (and flash) on the 755p, for starters.

    Many thanks in advance.

If you are using the latest applications, then you will not have any problems. You should not back up the 650 and restore to the 755P - that is just an invitation for problems. Ben

Ben, thank you for replying. So if I do this purchase, would I install the Palm Desktop that comes with the phone and one by one install the .prc files for all of my programs through that new Palm Quick Install? I want to use the same username as on my 650, because I bought them and the registration key uses that username.

    many thanks

Hi Dollface, I would check on the internet sites for your apps version to be sure they will work with your new phone. You can move or copy your contacts etc.. to your desktop then paste them make into the new palm desktop so you will not lose data.

I have looked at the 755p and the centro. Is there much difference between the two.

    Hi Plunker,

thanks for your input. I will check on my treasured apps, as I really love them all and do not want to re-buy them. But Ben thought they all would work on the 755p as long as I have the newest versions, which I do.

I have not investigated the Centro, but in my opinion, I never buy anything in it's first production year; that's just me. But the 755p looks like a very worthy upgrade indeed, just for the storage space and speed alone. But I am really interested in the better camera, and I believe it might have a flash too. I saw some photos on this site taken with a 755p and I was blown away. I am a photographer and use a 7mpx digital camera and I was so impressed by the quality of these photos taken by the 755!

Unfortunately that is too true; I would suggest that you go to the 755p forum on this site and ask if some who upgraded to the Centro can give opinions. I trust people here much more than at a Sprint store. :foot:

My wife's Centro has sustained no resets since day one. All of the apps that were on her 650 work on the Centro and of course, I had the latest releases on the 650. My suggestion - install them one at a time.

Hey Ben, that is fantastic to know; I am impressed with the no resets part.

Using the same hot sync name is not a problem; however, it really is to your advantage to rename the old backup folder and let the desktop create a new one. The new desktop for Vista was installed on my Acer laptop without a hitch and has operated well. Anyway, 1 at a time means you catch your problems before they become problems.

The PIM information is automatically configured by the desktop when you do the desktop sync. Do not do Device Overwrites Desktop. You can do sync or desktop overwrites device.
