Check PDANet - lots are using it with great success. I have heard nothing but good things.

....except of course if you're a Mac user which they don't support.

I have used it as a modem on occasions where I don't get wireless and have a real need to use my laptop-which is rare since most things I need to get done,I can do,or at least start on my Treo and save the trouble of toting my laptop around.

What carrier are you using ? It is my understanding that some carriers had initially disabled this functionality-am not sure, since I have an unlocked device.

With PDAnet, I don't think the carrier is an issue. You just download it, and follow the instructions, and BAM! You're connected. It's a great app. I use it regularly, especially when visiting my parents - who still use dial up because cable isn't available in their area - and I connect at 7x what they do:D .

Default Treo 650 as Wireless Modem

I got my Treo this week and was delighted to find PDANet, which allows your Treo to function as a wireless modem. It can be found at the following site...
http://www.junefabrics.com/palmnet/index.php Works like a charm so far!

    Default pdanet

Are there any additional costs other than the initial buy. I already have unlimited interenet with cingular (media Works).

Are there any other options besides this one?

    Default pdanet cost and connection

i downloaded the free version yesterday and think it works great. what's the difference between this and the pay version?

in addition, does anyone recommend one bluetooth dongle over another? there are 3 showing on the accessory page (bluetooth dongle w/bluesoleil, motorola dongle and dongle w/blue manager). anyone with any experience with any of them?

as far as additional expense, the answer is no.

as far as the 'Trial Version' of PDAnet is concerned, it stops working after a while (I believe),
then you need a passkey to continue using it, which you obtain with purchase.

concerning media works, see this discussion:

I have the Cingular 'unlimited data' plan for $39.99, because I surf the net alot along with regularly checking my e-mail.

Does anyone know how to use the Treo 650 as an external modem on a Mac? I'm on Verizon.
