Using Treo as modem
I was looking into using the treo as a modem since I have the unlimited package. I asked a Cingular rep and he told me that I could use the treo as a modem but if I do that, then I would be charged for additional data consumption because the unlimited use is only for the PDA. They can distinguish whether I am pulling data with the PDA or laptop by determining which browser is used (Blazer vs. IE). Is this true?

If they wanted to know...Yes, they could tell.
Will they bill you for laptop usage... *probably not*.
I haven't seen any cases of people getting slammed with
a high bill because of using the Treo as a modem.
In the end, it's up to you...

I know of a couple people that have gotten inflated bills for using it as a modem but one call and a complaint from them with some knowledge and both of them had their bills adjusted right.....
PDANet is what I use and it is perfect for using the Treo as a modem.....
I wouldn't worry about it.....maybe a few years back before everyone was doing it, it raised a few red flags but nowadays everyone has data plans and PDAs and laptops.....They assume people with these gadgets are smart enough to get it linked for modem use.....
I say go for it and RUN FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have the "Unlimited PDA Connect" plan that I have, using the DUN function of your phone will be using the Wireless GPRS that the unlimited PDA Connect plan is utilizing. As far as I've investigated, Cingular won't charge you for the DUN usage with your laptop. Like a previous post indicated, unless they need to differentiate between browsing and laptop usage, your DUN usage via GPRS is all they're concerned with.
