can someone direct me to a "how to thread" for Versamail. I need step by step directions...have not been able to master it

with what i've read in Manual. I am trying to set up GMAIL acct.

Choose your model and get a ton of guides from Palm here:

Within GMail, you can go to the Settings > POP and Forwarding; and that will give you the information that you need to fill in the server information and other information to do GMail on your Treo.

Were you able to set up gmail with versamail? If so, tell me your secret because I have spent two hours and no luck. I have used the settings given at the gmail website, changed the ports, etc

These are the settings I used:

incoming: pop.gmail.com, port 995, ssl
outgoing: smtp.gmail.com, port 465, ssl, use authentication

I have cingular treo 650. Help!

I have Cingular with Versamail and gmail setup that's working. Sometimes on a Send it doesn't get a response from the server, so I send the mail to the Outbox and it's usually gone shortly thereafter.

On gmail: Settings, Forwarding and POP, I selected: "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on."

On the Treo I have the exact same settings as you do. Username is my full gmail address (username@gmail.com). I'd check for typos in the username and password.

I have Versamail working with Gmail as well. On intitial set up I could not get it to send either. What I did was change my smtp port settings to 587 instead of 465.

Thanks for your response. I got it to work after following Chris' recommendations. Sorry I did not find that thread before bothering you people, but it was getting late last night, and I was about to jump from a bridge

For anyone else reading this thread, I used "other" at the first setup screen for pop mail, not "gmail" which is an option in the scrool down menu. I used pop.gmail.com, port 995, ssl encryption for incoming. I used port 587 with ssl encryption for smtp.gmail.com for outgoing AND used authentication (esmtp). I have emailed and received email without problems now. Interestingly, I was hoping to use the "gmail" option setting in POP mail but that gave me an error, I wonder why. Any future reader of this thread, please go to previous quoted thread.

This worked for me as well and I appreciate it very much. My wife was really getting upset that she could not send email, the 587 worked like a charm.

I even set mine up on my new Treo700w with no troubles.
