| VersaMail Crash Hi All
Hope you can help,
Versamail crashes my Treo. Everytime I start the program it shows the screen for a moment then the whole device crashes and reboots. Web conections throuhg other programs works fine... no other symptoms that I am aware of.
Any ideas to fix this. It was working fine... but now. Since last time it worked the only thing I KNOW I did was load tide tool software.
cheers

| The first thing I would do is remove the last app that you installed.

| As usual, Kreth has offered good advice. The Tide site does offer a clue and that is the age of the software you loaded. The site hasn't been updated since 2004 and this note from the site may say it all: Runs on Palm OS through version 5.3.
The Treo uses OS Garnet version 5.4.8
Be careful of any software not specifically designed for the Treo OS.
Good luck,
SteveTaz |

| The Versamail application has in all of the Treo releases been plagued with problems, from index maintenance to not releasing physical memory. It is not at all unusual for users to have to delete various files in order to regain memory and subsequently regain stablity.
My suggestion is one you may not like, delete its support files and use another email client, such as ChatterEmail or SnapperMail. Both are good programs. I have them both and use ChatterEmail exclusively. Test drive them.

| But Ben, dins said it was working fine before installing the Tide program. I would think it would be worth a shot to remove that, especially because it isn't designed for the Treo, and then see if things straighten out.
Why install yet another program, experience the install, setup and then the learning curve if he/she was happy with Versamail? I know it is fun to hate Versamail, but it isn't all that bad.
Just a thought.... Quote:

| You have a point there...I just installed TideTool and noted some of those databases are pretty big and when loaded on my 700p it ran okay; I then moved it to the card and it ran okay.
On the 650 it is running ok with ChatterEmail running and I have 8.0mb free memory.
So, let's at least take a look at available memory and what device is being used.
The questions now, what device is being run and how much free memory is available?

dins | Kreth has offered you sound advice, however, I am not so sure it will solve your problems. I had the same problem with versamail, and it turned out that a database was corrupt. Try this link: http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBC...m_External2001
This takes you step by step through finding and deleting and even re-creating the database. This fixed it for me, but about every 3 days later it would happen again. SteveTaz is right: its easy to hate versamail! I know I sure do! After rebuilding that database about 4 times, I moved on to Chatteremail and love it! If Deleting Tide doesn't help your Versamail situation, I am betting your solution lies in the link above . .

| Hi All,
Deleted Tide tool , which I am very sad about since I use it more than Versamail (sailor here) Still the same problem.
Followed instructions about installing FileZ and deleting data bases but on some of the files I received an error message "ERROR:dm:ROM based in Item ::remove()c" (or something like this.) Reset Treo but Versamail crashed it again... did this twice with no luck.
dins... I am a man, though much more of this may change me in some deep way |

| Assuming that you followed those versamail database deletion instructions right probably means that Tide wasn't the problem . . .
Of course you already know the bad news . . .
As much as I love my Treo, it frustrates me that there are so many issues with the versamail app! Someone once told me that my problems might be tied to my provider and not versamail. Funny thing though, that those issues never returned when I moved on to Chatter . . .

| The problem with Versamail and its former and current implimentations is that most users will at some point in time experience failures or problems with it.
I installed and played with Tide Tool on both the 650 and 700p last night and never had a problem with it. Note though that I pay close attention to my free memory/resources and do not use Versamail. It fails to monitors its file sizes, does not "delete" old messages, does not handle attachments well...
I say reinstall Tide Tool and then test drive SnapperMail or ChatterEmail.
