    Default Versamail receives but errors on send

    I've been trying to setup Versamail for the first time. My desktop PC is on Road Runner and I use Outlook as my email.

    All of the server names, password have been entered into Versamail on my Treo 650. However, I can only receive messages. When I try to send I get the following error:

    550 5.7.1
    <my email address>
    ... Relaying denied

    Got any thoughts on this?

    You might try setting your outgoing server to your cell carrier and not your e-mail account. Whoever you are using is not letting you send (relay) through their server.

    I am on sprint and use their server address instead of my e-mails. (on the outgoing only)

    Good Luck

    Outgoing mail can not be relayed through most email servers without some work... it is a security thing.

    so you either have to use the SMTP (outgoing) server from your cell phone carrier (for Cingular it is cwmx.com); OR you can try to use authentication settings and use your regular email server but you have to enter your username/password for that server:

    From your email; find Account Setup; then Edit; In set up; after basic settings.. click Advanced; dont do anything for incoming server; click next;
    for OUTGOING SERVER check "use authentication (ESMTP); then put in your user name and password from your email account.. worked for me

    Good Luck

    Default Thanks, it now works

    Thanks for help on Versamail. I used the Cingular server for outgoing mail that you suggested (cwmx.com), and it works like a charm.

    Default Two questions... sending and receiving issues

    I've got two questions pertaining to VersaMail...

    First, regarding sending, if I don't want to go the authentication route... but use my carrier's outgoing server instead. I've got Verizon Wireless, and these are the hoops they make you jump through to be able to use their outgoing server, straight from their site:

    Why can't I send email through my existing ISP mail account?

    Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) do not allow their customers to send email from other networks such as Verizon Wireless' NationalAccess and BroadbandAccess services. To accommodate Verizon Wireless customers who have email accounts that do not allow relaying, Verizon Wireless has implemented an outbound SMTP mail server for you to be able to send your email.
    To utilize SMTP you will need to do the following:
    1. Change your Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.vzwmail.net. The steps to change the Outgoing Mail Settings will vary by email client. Please refer to your email client provider for instructions on how to change the setting.
    2. Create a VText.com profile if you do not already have a Verizon Wireless VText.com profile. Visit www.vtext.com from your PC to register for free. A TXT Messaging capable data device or phone is required.
      • The credentials to access the send mail server will be the 10-digit mobile number (used on VText.com) @vzwmail.net (i.e. 2025551212@vzwmail.net) for the user name. For the password use the password established on www.vtext.com.
      • NOTE: Credentials established on www.vtext.com may take up to twelve hours before they will work on the Verizon Wireless SMTP server. If your password works on www.vtext.com but not on the smtp.vzwmail.net server, try again in a couple hours.
    The Verizon Wireless SMTP server can be accessed from most ISPs (Internet Service Providers) eliminating the need to reconfigure settings when switching between Verizon Wireless and other networks.

    OK, #1... easy. #2... easy until they start talking about credentials. Where am I supposed to put those credentials?

    Second question... regarding receiving mail. I started with Wireless Sync, but I was only getting some of my mail. (And, I've read there's no way to uninstall Wireless Sync.) I switched to VersaMail last night, but I'm still only getting some of my mail. Funny thing is... the "some of my mail" that I'm receiving via Wireless Sync is the "some of my mail" that I'm NOT receiving via VersaMail... and vice versa. How is this possible? And what can I do to fix this?

    I just want to be able to send and receive... seems simple! Otherwise, this thing is useless to me! :mad:
