Viewing web cam on Treo 650??
I bought the Treo 650 with the hopes of being able to view web cams on it. I can get to the page and see the still image of the cam, but when I try to access the camera I get a browser error from Blazer stating that the "Axis ActiveX Camera Control" could not be registered on my browser. I talked with Palm Support and they stated they are working on a plugin for Blazer. Has anyone heard this ?? Or is there another way to view a web cam???

ActiveX is a something introduced by Microsoft that's not supported by Blazer. The problem you're experiencing shouldn't be generalized to all webcams. It's specific to the web interface provided by the webcam that you're using. Maybe a different browser would have better luck, but I doubt it unfortunately.

My follow up to Palm Support...............
I have now spent over 8 hours talking to various "Palm" support centers... What a joke!!!!!!....
My question started from my inquiry about viewing web cams on the Palm Treo 650. My last call 67 mins. to "support group" in the Philippians’...... The first rep. was not knowledgeable about the "Blazer" browser installed on the Palm Treo 650 and kept going on about MB's.... ??? Then the next rep. I talked to told me that the "Palm OS" is out the door and the "Blazer" browser is not going to be updated.....Therefore if I wanted to access a web page that required an "activex" component "I should go to a "Windows Mobile" based Smart phone"..... Now That is what I call Customer service for your product!!!!!!!!!!!!.....
I even tried calling the corporate office to NO avail.... I have looked through many forums about his issue (and found many with the same questions??? But I have never gotten such the runaround and back stepping as I did from these reps. at Palm........
**My Question..... I forked over a big chuck of change for this "Smart Phone" under the assumption that it will do what I inquired about(about another 10 hours of research about these types of phones) Can I view web cam over my Palm Treo 650????? I was told not "they are working on it... then I'm told via email that they have "never heard of this"????? So what is it??????
With most of the web pages out there needing to access an "activeX" component of some kind is Palm just "throwing the towel" and letting Bill win???? Or is something in the works that the people in Tech. Sup. do not know about yet???? If this is what I can ecpect from “Palm Support” then I think I should go to a Windows Mobile system instead..
I really thought that I would get some "support " from Palm......But I guess they are willing to surcume to Bill Gates and Microsoft ... I guess I will need to drop this phone as THERE IS NO REAL SUPPORT OF THE REAL LIFE APLICATIONS FOR it....

I understand your frustration. One thing to keep in mind is that ActiveX was created by Microsoft, so it's understandable that they would support it in Pocket IE. Activex is not a web standard, and therefore is not an easy thing for an outside company to support. I understand your frustration, and I wish there was a simple solution for the Treo. I only thing I can recommend, is to see if there is a more mobile friendly interface to the webcam available.
What is the manufacturer and model of the webcam?

The Big Picture...on "support"
Thanks for your insight...But I think you maybe missing the point....Before I purchased the Treo 650 I had called Palm support and was assured that this was in the works...Then after a few emails and more calls to support I am now being told that there WILL NOT be an upgrade to the Blazer browser and mostlikely be replaced with a MS Windows mobile platform.... So yes my frustration is High. I've tried to contact Palm Corp. they will not answer there phone and I am tired of talking to people halfway around the world who have NO clue about the Palm OS or where it is going.....ZERO NADDA ZIPPO Support from them....

Ok, I understand the reason for your frustration. I was just looking to help find a solution to your problem.

I didn't get a chance to read every line of your post, but I think I have the main idea. I don't know if we're allowed to promote another website, but I saw a software review on Treonauts that seemed to be exactly what you are looking for. It enables you to view webcam on treo 650. It's about half way down the page. Hope this helps.

Well I think the solution for you and hopefully will settle some of the frustrations you are having is to download
WorldCam Viewer which - requires WebSphere Micro Environment

I still can never get over how much memory Java uses! I think Fireviewer would be great if they would support images from multiple worldcams. There really is nothing to see in the server room that they give you the address for!
