    Default Virtual serial port creation?

Want to HotSync with my bluetooth, and the 650 is asking me to create a virtual Serial Port on my computer. I have a Windows XP/with sp2. How do I do that? :frown:

If I remember right you go into bluetooth devices in the control panel and set up a trusted pair with your phone....On one of the tabs you can assign a port to the connection. Under hot sync manager setup or custom set the com port to the same number you selected in the control panel.

    Hi,

You will see a bluetooth icon in your system tray.
Right clicl on it and you will see an option 'advanced'
    Select that.
Now Set both devices to be visible to each other.
'Discovery Tab'. All these tabs are in the advanced window you just opened.
Set discovery in such a manner the devices can see each other.
Now pair them up using the 'Accessibility' tab.
After pairing. Go to 'Local Services' tab.
There you click 'Add serial service' button.
Then name this 'Bluetooth Port' or whatever. Sometimes it automatically has the right name.
Tick select 'startup automatically' and 'secure connection'. Both should be selected.
Set com port as com4 or com5 whatever is smallest available. (this is the same comX you select in the desktop hotsync setting by right clicking the hotsync icon in system tray and selecting SETUP. There you can set the port to the same com port youve selected in the bluetooth serial port panel mentioned above. The com nos should match. You can also choose in that panel how you wish to be notified when the Treo connects to the pc via this virtual port. Make sure you select a correct hotsync name (username). Now hit hotsync. I think thats about it. If it doesnt work. Drop a line here and we will sort it out.

I was having a similar problem. I followed plainman007's instructions and my computer now says connected via serial port com 6. However, about 30 seconds later the phone times out and gives the error, "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Any ideas?"

Nevermind got it to work. Problem was I had created more than one serial port and they were conflicting.
