Default What can I do with a Treo 650?

I just bought the Treo 650 from ebay and should have it by Friday. Aside from the typical phone, address book and calendar, what can I do with this device? and what are some essential or least useful third party programs to load? Also I heard that with IMAP it can closlely simulate true push email...does it work well? What about itunes for windows? can it be made to work on the treo 650?

    Welcome!

I think the question should be what can't you do with your treo 650? I'm a new user myself and I'm amazed at what I've learned about it. There are many threads in this forum that can help you.

You can start here: http://www.everythingtreo.com/kb/ It's a place where other Treo users answer the more common questions.

Some other threads I found useful are: http://www.everythingtreo.com/forum/treo-650/essential-apps-2158.html?highlight=applications

Default What can't you do with a Treo

    mgar,

First, welcome to the world of Treo. Secondly, the question isn't what can you do, but rather what CAN'T you do with your Treo. I am a PETC (Palm Education Training Coordinator) and I am constantly asked what can you do with ____. The answer is, just about anything you want. I always tell people that 90% of the things you can do on a regular pc can be done with your Treo. Aside from the software store on this site, try Handango, Palmgear, palmsource, etc. Just have alook around and find the things you really want to be able to do. Odds are, you will find and app that can do just that. happy hunting.

Let's see...turn off the sound (it's my alarm clock), check the weather for today so I know if I need extra uniforms or anything at work, check any appointments I have, view the Excel work schedule to see what I'm doing today, brush up on any relevant work-related literature or regulations in Word or Adobe's .pdf format, see if I have any meetings scheduled, see if I have any reminders to mail bday cards or make bday calls, check my email, get a quick sports update either via the web or tune in ESPN on MobiTV, watch a DVD...then, when I feel up to it....I get out of bed.

Yea, I laughed out loud! Very funny!!!

    • I too use it to get out of bed and check the day's weather using Treo Alarm
    • I check 6 email accounts and often respond to the ones needing responded to using Chatter. Sometimes, I will take pictures/movies of family stuff to send to my son, all from the Treo.
    • when booking requests come in for my band, I use the IM feature for everyone to check their schedules and availability before I respond back.
    • I also keep bookings/personal/company meetings on the Calendar.
    • I open, edit save word, excel documents for both work and personal use.
    • I get driving directions and find people using Directory Assistant
    • I jot down notes while talking on the phone using Diddlebug
    • I read ebooks (several classics free on ereader - thanks kreth)
    • and watch movies using TCPMP
    • I make lists that I need to do using handyshopper
    • I IM all my buds using IM+
    • I get caught up on my favorite news (tech, world, Politics) using Quicknews
    • I update my blog using U*blog
    • I play a few games
    • I surf the web with it
    • and hook it to my laptop when I need to use it as a modem using PDAnet.
    • I pair it with my bluetooth headset for safer driving while talking
And very soon, I will be streaming audio to it using ptunes.
