I am trying to hot sync my treo 650 with my new laptop and when pairing the two devices it is asking me for my PIN code for the treo. Does anyone know how I can find out what this is ?

    Thanks in advance.

My guess you are using bluetooth to hot sync?? If you are there is a code for the device and treo. I don't have my manual with me but I believe it is either 0000 or 1111 unless you set up something else. I'm not sure you can even change the code. Thoses are zeros and not o's.

1111 or 0000 is not working.

My treo is asking for a pass key for the laptop but I'm pretty sure the 1111 or 0000 is not the correct PIN for my particular phone.

Your issue does sound like a bluetooth one. Are you trying to connect using a USB cable, or have you set it up for bluetooth? If you have set it up for bluetooth, then your computer should generate a passcode to enter on your treo while connecting, at least on the first time, to authenticate that you really want your computer connecting to your treo. This passcode is usually displayed on the screen once a connection is attempted with your device.

I guess my question for you would be, what Operating System is on your laptop? Knowing that would make it easier to figure out how your laptop is trying to communicate with your treo.

Another thing to check would be your hotsync preferences or settings, just to make sure you have the right kind of connection selected and configured.

Hero is right on here. I don't use bluetooth alot and remember little of the set up. In my case a bought a USB bluetooth device to talk to the treo. When setting up the device or the port it promted me for a password and offered the basic ones. You might check your computers blue tooth.

when you are asked to enter a pin on the phone, just make something up, and then the laptop should ask you the pin, and just type in whatever you used for your pin on the phone. It worked for me.

thank you all for the responses. i got so frustrated i did what i always do.

    give up.

OK well i'm back and trying to get my treo 650 to hot sync with my laptop via abluetooth attachment I have plugged into my usb port.

i have made it as far as getting the laptop to attempt to 'pair' the items. they have identified each other and are aware of each other. when enter the password 0000 and then re enter 0000 on my phone i get the error message

error pairing with device :'joe fitzpatrick'

make sure your device is connectable and try again.

    Please help.

    thanks in advance.

P.s i have also tried 1111, with no success.

Did your bluetooth attachment have a password preset? I think I set up a password in my (windows) bluetooth and I don't have to reentry it. I probably made it a trusted pair.
