| Why do I get a error message while launching the web browser Everytime I want to go onto the web with my 650, i get an error message that stats that I do not have enough memory to perform the selected operation; consider freeing up some memory by moving items to the SD card. According to the 650, I have 5mb's free. If I do a soft reset the web then works fine.
So why do i need to do a soft reset everytime i want to launch the web?
P.s. I have a 650 with Goodlink installed.
Thanks in advance for your help. |

| That's real odd? You could try clearing the cache out in Blazer.
Go to Options > Preferences > Advanced Tab > Select Clear Cache.

| I have just noticed that I only get the error if I download an attachment from an email document.
If I am on e-mail and download an attachment, then want to go to the web, I must do a soft reset or I get the error mentioned in a previous posy.
Any help? |

| The reason that this is happening is caused by an item called DBCache. Basically, its a swap file (technical term for a temp storing space) that takes about 4MB of hidden memory. This is basically used for programs that need more space to run than what they take up in memory. Goodlink is a program that requires a lot of memory to use and the reason why you get the soft reset after you run Goodlink and go to the web browser is because goodlink uses all of that temporary space and the operating system does not empty it properly. Therefore the web browser, which also uses that space for holding your website info goes there and instead of purging the old goodlink info, the system crashes.
Solutions: honestly there isnt none that you can do in your case. Goodlink wasnt well written for the palmOS, though it does work well. I cannot remember but the program RescoLocker that might be able to help, but it would really knock at the rest of your system performance.
Another hugely more risky option is making a custom ROM (care of shadowmite.com) and removing articles from your ROM (the undeletable apps) and that would give you more space with DBCache to work with. But not much...and again its kinda risky if you do not know what you are doing. |

| Thanks Atoine!
Just for clarification purposes, the system doesn't reset...I have to reset it for the web to work. However, your response is what must be happening. |

I do not have a file on the PDA called DBCache, not even in ROM. A soft reset does not fix this for me either. I just cannot get the web browser to startup at all. I have over 1 Mb free on the device and it still wants more to be deleted?
Any other ideas on this one? |

-Chris | And just where is this options menu to be found? In Blazer? Blazer will not startup so how can I get to the Blazer options menu? I did check to see if there was a prefs option on the treo like this but could not find one.

| Hi:
One thing I can tell you is that you ABSOLUTELY have to clear some of your memory. My personal experience is that if the device gets below 3mb free memory it becomes unstable and prone to crashing and odd behavior. Having trolled these boards for some time I can say that my experience is very common.
What have you loaded onto your Treo? If you use email often you may not be completely clearing out the trash. After deleting email you do have to "Empty Trash" to fully recover the room. I remember when I first started and discovered this....It was like a day in paradise.
If you have been messing around with ringtones that can also chew up huge amounts of the meager memory available.
What software have you also loaded?

| The treo 650 main memory is valuable property, as there's not a lot of it. I suggest to both of these posters that you buy a 2GB SD card and move a lot of your installed programs onto that. And also, when you download attachments in email, unless you state to save the attachment on the card, it puts it into main memory. I have even seen where I tell it to save the attachment to the card, and then I find the original attachment in memory. I deleted it. But now I use ChatterEmail that saves downloaded attachments on the card. When I owned a 650, I always had at least 10MB of free space.

| Thanks stevetaz for the tip about email. I had not done an empty trash in some time and just got back from a trip so updated my email and deleted a bunch of stuff. Now I can launch the browser.
And dollface, I do have an SD card, 512MB, that I use for pictures and backups and documents. But I do not have applications installed to the card. I need to get up to speed on how this is done. Can you give me a quick overview. Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this? If I install an app to an SD card I presume it will just not be installed when/if I remove the SD card, right? What about if I install the SD card in another treo, is the app then installed on that treo? |
