Default WiFi

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, as I just bought my treo 650 from ebay and plan on using my T mobile SIM card with it. I know this is going to sound stupid but right now I am using the Pocket PC...hate it...terrible phone quality...OK PDA. Anyway, with the pocket PC i know they use the GPRS system to get online. I think it takes FOREVER so I feel like a rarely use it. Anyway, I was just wondering what the difference is between GPRS, WiFi, EDGE, ect... I was iunder theimpression from other postings that the Treo 650 does not have WiFi but that you can get a driver (????) to make it WiFi??? Does this make any sense to any of you guys out there?

Also can you get something to make your Treo 650 a modem for your laptop?

Thanks for your help...I have a feeling that once I get the phone I will have more questions.

Stacey

PS-I love the features of the Call Sheild...does anyone know if they will be making that for the 650?

A good WiFi solution is not available for the 650 right now. Enfora is supposed to release a Sled device to add WiFi. WiFi is typically used for a wireless connection to a local network and is faster than current cellular data speeds. Some of the terms you've listed you can lookup at www.wikipedia.org to get a better idea of what they are.

I would recommend using PdaNet for making your Treo a wireless modem for your laptop. This program is meant to only be used with Windows.

There is a beta of CallShield available in MantraGroup's forum, but I don't know how good it is right now on the 650.
