Will unlocked GSM version of the 650 work with T-mobile account?
Hi;
I am new to this forum and watch it for the last couple of weeks as I was impatiently waiting for the treo 650 GSM. Great information on here. So here is my first question:
I currently don't have an account with any provider, but interested in having one with T-mobile. I understand they don't formally support the treo 650. If I take an unlocked version and just get an account with T-mobile, will I be able to use the treo with it? Any limitation or will I be able to use all features (such as as a modem for my laptop)?
Oh and one more question. I saw on here in one of the messages of an option to get a number that is yours so that you can change providers and keep the number. Where can I find details about this option?
Thanks in Advance.

I just spoke with PalmOne. They will sell an unlocked GSM Treo 650 that will work with any GSM carrier (T-Mobile, Cingular). The price is, are you sitting down, $699.00. I will wait for T-Mobile to release their version of the 650 for $300 less than PalmOne's price.

Hi Robert;
I did the same, but the price is $599, not $699. I placed my order on their site.

Wow, Robert's right. The price went up to $699!
Good thing I ordered when I did! :D

I checked it out too. It seems it depends on the plan you have. If you're upgrading a Cingular plan, then it's $549. I'm hesitant to say only $549, because that's still a nice bit of change.;)
I assume that if you're not w/ Cingular, then you get hit with the $699. For that price, you can get a Mini Mac and iPod Mini for a few bucks more.:D I'd wait for T-Mobile to release their Treo 650.

This weekend I opened a three line account with T-Mobile. I got my girlfriend a nice Motorola Bluetooth phone with some accessories. I got myself a free Motorola phone (will then buy the Treo 650 when available) and got my Dad a free Samsung (large display) phone. I can't be happier with the service area. I can make calls in places where I had no Verizon service.

Yes it will work !! You will need to establish a data plan for any access to e-mail and web. Nice thing about T-Mo is that you can get unlimited data for $19.95 added on to any voice plan. You will need something like this if you wish to use the Treo as a laptop modem.
As far as your number goes, you are referring to number portability. If you already have a cell # from Verizon for example, when you sign up with T-Mo, just tell them you want to keep the same tel # as you have with Verizon, and they will be able to set you up.
Good Luck.... I have been using T-Mo for 4 years and think they offer the best bang for your buck, from a coverage, data and CSR perspecitve. I have been using a Treo600 and am anxiously awaiting my unlocked T650 any day now.

Does anyone know if the memory handling problem has been resolved with the unlocked GSM version of the 650?
Thanks,
Robert

I don't believe so...

If that is so, how can they continue to sell them? Are they still giving away extra memory cards? I am looking for a replacement for my Kyocera 7135. But now I am hesitant. I received a free Motorola V180 from T-Mobile when I signed up last Saturday for a three line business plan. I have to admit that the Motorola throw away is nice. Nine hours of talk time and 10 days of standby time. With my 7135 I need two batteries to get through the day. But in all fairness to Kyocera, the lousy battery time is due to Verizons lousy service at my home (searches all day).
