Default Won't sync anymore.. its only been a week!!

As usual, when I plug the usb cable in and press the button.. it makes a 'doink' noise, not the usual 'brink'. And nothing happens on the PC. On the 650, phone shows the syncing attempt.. and then says it can't.

I called Cingular.. they say its cause USB sync doesn't work on Windows XP! When I was done laughing.. they hung up.

    Any ideas??

I suggest clicking the Hotsync icon in your desktop tray and making sure that Local USB is the only choice checked. I've had to do that a few times when I've gone back and forth with bluetooth sync.

i have found that hotsynch doesn't respond well to failed attempts and (for my setup) re-booting windows was required. why? i have not (technical) idea but it certainly worked. similarly, for bluetooth synch deleting the virtual port helped.

Pointman- (please don't take this in the wrong way but) is the correct method of synch still selected in hotsynch? if it reset, it may have reset to modem/ir or some other alternative and you may not be aware. i've also had problems where the pc was looking for a previous hotsynch and wouldn't swap to new device/username without being forced.

    That's been my experience, too.

Thanks for the help and suggestions everyone. FFolliet, definitely NO offense taken. I seriously appreciate any advice. I checked that setting a hundred times. haha After trying everything, Cingular sent me a new cable.. it did nothing. Finally, they sent me a new phone and everything works perfectly now.

"doink" is obviously a very bad noise then...
