Y-key operation suspended
Hi. My y-key is not behaving. Actually it seems like it will not work for an increasing number or presses. Then it can start working again but gradually requires more key presses to produce a Y or (.
I emailed Palm and they (of course) suggested it could be a third party app. OK, I have a lot of games loaded and some of them might be borderline apps developed for the Pilots and the PalmV.
I looked and searched all over the forum to find anything related to this, but no luck.
Does anyone now this happened before?
Any apps. that are known to mess up the phone like this?
I did dissassemble the Treo650 to pieces and found a lot of pocket dirt, dust and hairs in there, stuck in the keyboard plastic. Cleaned it all out but it's still the same.

Surgery on these devices often leaves parts not properly lined up and that can be a lingering problem. I suggest disassembling it again and then putting it together. If that does not work, then the Treo doctor.
As a note, I occasionally use a can of compressed air on the 3 Treos in my family and every couple of weeks on my lap top.

Apps developed for prior versions like Pilots and V really should not be loaded onto the 650, but you knew that. If they were to cause problems I would think you would have more issues than the Y key not working. I would expect crashing, resets and the like, but a key not mapped properly could happen.
That said, if you could strip everything else off and see if it begins working again (hard reset) wouldn't that be easier than surgery? Maybe you could consider it pre-op prep....

Looking at the other threads, sounds like you are having a few issues adapting to the 755, but I hope the newness is wearing off and you are settling in.

The y-key started before my brave attempts at Treo surgery. That was when the earphone jack stopped working, making it useless. The 'nothing to loose' situation can make anyone brave.
I guess I will have to do what I've put off for so long, remove it all, hard reset, and add them one by one, tedious....
Still no Centro in the mailbox...:frown:

All the more reason to do the hard reset and see if that cleans it up and lets you use the Y key again.

Did that
Problem is, I did it a couple of weeks ago and in the following sync all the programs I had on it were synced right back on it. (Unlike some of the recently added notes I had on it and yes I did sync before the reset, deep sigh.) No quarantined apps. Could apps on the SDcard cause anything like this? I havn't run any of the old programs since the hreset.

First and foremost you should do the hard reset and use as a phone only for a couple of days. If the key operates normally then you start to restore and if it happens again at least you know the hardware is fine and the problem is related to either corrupted data (probably not) or a problem program. Then you would clear again and restore one at a time until you track down the culprit.
If it is hardware then you can look into replacing the keyboard if you choose to.
