Smile 3 days with 680 ...

so ... i got my new att treo 680 3 days ago and so far so good. the only problem i had was with the syncing of palm desktop and outlook 2003 address book and calender. i had to install and reinstall and reinstall just to sync once and then my outlook was all messed up !!! other than that though the treo 680 itself has been reliable and predictable ... then again its only been 3 days !

So other than it screwing up your Outlook, everything is fine?

;-)

Frankly, had that happened to me (I don't use Outlook and I'd rather have an open running sore than use it - but that's just me) I'd be ready to box up the Treo and send it back.

New hardware and its support software should not screw up already present (and unconnected) software that doubtless you have spent a lot of time and energy on.

Only 3 days - yeah, let's reassess 'reliable and predictable' after a month - though just getting the thing to run (albeit with software issues) is a significant accomplishment with Palm products these days.
After 8 months with my 680, there are still moments I stare at it and wonder, 'What were they thinking?' and pine for my old TX...

Bon chance!

You know I have found my 680 much more stable than my 650 was . . . Not rock solid, but for the most part, stable . . . What I have found unacceptable is the battery life! That is when I long for that rock solid battery of the 650! But I do find myself a little frustrated with Palm's lack of innovation. I have watched WM grow into a really nice OS and even though I feel that the iPhone interface is more of a gimmick, I still like the look and feel of the device, and then look at the 680 . . An OS thats barely changed since the Palm IIIc days. I tell myself that I am holding out for the linux Palm OS. Just this morning, I came across several screen shots of Access Linux Platform's mobile OS. This was the company building Palm's new OS before Palm decided to build their own. Just looking at these pictures makes me wonder . . . Will Palm's look better than this? These are NICE!

Palm is so busy being a smartphone provider to wireless companies (and not one with a great reputation at that) they seemingly have lost all interest or skill at developing their OS and it's software.

Time was when Palm was the de facto PDA for business types and that when the first Treo came out (albeit via Handspring) it was a revelation as smartphones go. Now they are easily eclipsed by RIM, Microsoft, Symbian (as in Nokia devices) and - heaven help us - Apple OSs, and Palm seems genuinely oblivious.

If it wasn't for ennui and the general aggravation of moving years of Palm PDA stuff over and/or adapting to another OS (though Microsoft being unlikely - see aforementioned opinion of Outlook), I'd probably not be running Palm as a smartphone now. And that's no ones fault but Palm's.

stillrockin whats up brotha ? yeah , i saw those linux pics and i do agree there pretty sweet. I think palm needs to step it up a bit to match WM's advances ... and even though i tried the 700wx with sprint for less than a month and didn't like it I still can agree with some people saying that WM is advancing quite nicely. as for battery life with the 680 I really think palm could have done something to help battery life before releasing the 680 , i mean , the 680 doesn't even sport 3G and battery life sucks ... what gives ?
I do thank palm for at least including a free car charger , at least they'll agree with us that the battery sucks so bad they won't charge you for a car charger ....lol
