    Default 680

    Hi there,

OK I am definitely going to upgrade form my dear old TREO 600. I have been waiting for a TREO with GMS. So now that the 680 will be out ...

    1. I have been usign SPRINT for many years, I am not bound by any contract and can switch to whichever server will be best. My husband uses Verizon, my mom is T-Mobile... I am thinking of switching to Cingular because of the TREO 680. I am looking for best qulaity service with best pricing package with unlimited Data and web usage. Any thoughts?

    2. Why is the 680 a lower cost than the 700P? What will it have (besides GMS) or what will it lack that the 700P has? I am a MAC user and I use the Missing Sync application.

    Thanks for your input,
    Carol

Cingular will be the only carrier to have the Treo 680 as far as we know. At least, Palm to this point has made no announcements other than the 680 is coming to Cingular. You could buy one unlocked and use either on Cingular, or T-mobile, however, sprint/Verizon is a big question mark with the 680 at this point.

As far as what it lacks, besides a visible antenna:tounge: is no high speed data radio (still using edge, and cingular is rolling out the new HSDPA data service, and offering a few WM phones with it), the 700 has 128 megs of memory, the 680, 64 megs. The 680 has a smaller battery. It is still rated the same as the 700 however. The 680 has a slightly thinner case than the 700. The processor, and display are both the same. The camera appears to be the same camera that is found in the 650. The 700 has a 1.3 megapixel camera. I have not been impressed with any indoor picture I have taken with my 650 . . . . Outdoor pictures are tolerable.
There are probably some other differences, but these are the ones I have discerned just looking at the spec sheets.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

hmmm... half the memory? The 700P has 128 megs of memory and the 680 only has 64 megs - yuck

I use a regular digital camera for my photos ..so that is not a major concern.

So..... I am in a dilemma... do I go ahead and get a 700P with Sprint or Verizon, or get the 680 from Cingular... or wait for a GMS 700 version.

Why would they make a new version of a phone with less memory and no WiFi? how weird.

    Any suggestions??

    Carol

The memory thing is no big deal to me. I have been living just fine with much less on the 650. As far as suggestions go, here is what is important to me and how I would weigh it out:
    1. If GSM or Cingular is important to me, then I would go 680.
    2. If Memory is an issue as well as high speed data, I would jump ship to V/Sprint.
    3. If I were in no hurry, and liked WM, I would wait on the GSM 750, which should be appearing on Cingular before the year is out . .

    Default Cingular 750?

There will be a Cingular 750 for Palm by the end of the year???
    I would wait for that.
    Thanks

Here again, this is all speculation and rumor. Cingular doesn't do like Verizon and announce roll out dates, etc. This picture has been floating around the net, along with a similar one for the 680. You might want to read this aritcle from the ET blog

To wait or not to wait.... I'm assuming they will be released within a month of each other since it is already approaching the end of October. Are there any indications of price on the 750? Wondering if I would benefit from simply waiting for the 750. Although colors are nice.

A new Treo regardless of what model would be nice for Christmas... (Dear Santa,...)

Since this has been coming up a lot here latley as to the differences in the Treo units, I spent some time on Palm's US and UK site and pulled this table together so that one could easily look and compare the differences. I won't promise its 100% correct, but it is pretty detailed.
