Alerts and Deleting Files

Two quick questions:

1) Is there any way to make my phone show my alerts as soon as I bring it back from the screen off mode. Like, immediately as I bring it back, it lists all alerts (voicemail, text, etc). It used to show the recent text message I got, but now just defaults to the last screen I was on, instead of showing me the new items I have.

2) In my "All" on my menu screen, it shows updates and a bunch of random files. How can I enter the phone and delete individual files and programs such as this?
