Anyone have experience repairing 680 speaker and microphone?
I ruined my 680 (unbranded) by using a the headset jack for handsfree just one to many times, I guess. Everything was working fine up to that point. Other functions, PDA aspects are working fine now, calls can be received, calls can be made. Just can't hear the caller nor can the caller hear me. I think the speaker and microphone are kaput. I'd like to try and fix it myself as I have nothing to lose. It's in mint condition otherwise. Anyone have any experience doing this? Where is a good place to buy parts?
Is there somewhere I can look for instructions on how to do this. I don't expect anyone here to walk me through step by step here - I tend to not want to be a bother - just need to be pointed in the right direction. Oh, and yes, I've put the headset jack back in, did a 180 twist, pulled in out quickly. I've done a hard reset. Restored the backup. Did all that a few times to no avail.
Thanks for any help.

My 680 does this occasionally.
The problem is in the jack.
Try gently probing it with a toothpick.
I know this is pretty late from when you posted, but I just saw it.
Did you get it fixed in the meantime?

Just make a hard reset with your phone off and your SD card out. Before take note of every application you have because you have to sync after the reset all of them ,news and upgrades It is a chance to delete unused applications Maybe on these unused apps is making your device not working good. Donīt load old apps that works with old palm OS I mean before version 5.

A hard reset will not fix it.

Oh, I see-this is an advertisement.
I fixed mine yesterday with a toothpick.
No techs, no $$-just immediate results-cheap.

Thanks for all the suggestions
Thank you all for all the good suggestions. Nothing worked, so I ended up taking it apart and putting it back together (imperfectly). It's still unusable sitting in my desk drawer. I love Palm OS...been a fan for years... but there really isn't a good Palm option for me at this time - other than taking a chance with a used one and I've been there, done that. I already have a new Centro. So... I used my upgrade and got a Blackberry Bold. Fortunately there's an Everythingberry forum, so I don't feel so far away. It was hard to give up my Palm use, but if the Pre gets picked up by AT&T maybe I'll come back in a couple of years when my upgrade is available again. I do love Palm and miss some of the Palm specific functions and apps. Feel guilty going over to the Berry side - but it really is a nice device.

Hi corvid:
Don't feel guilty. Many of us have been torn over what Palm has or has not been doing. I left them early last year after 10 + years and went to the BlackBerry.
I hope they get it right with the Pre, but not everyone can wait...
I see you joined up over at EverythingBerry, but you haven't posted yet...
See you there.

HI corvid I understand you. I will buy a Palm Pre when it is available GSM unlocked I am actually in South America but I will not dismiss my Treo 680 unlocked that I have right now I will still using it as an PDA turned off the phone when the Pre is available. I expect some of my palm os applications will be developed for the Pre web os in the near future.
