Cingular or Palm
I was told there are some differences between buying a Treo 680 thru Cingular or Palm. Most importantly, the Palm warranty is becames invalid thru Cingular. Can anyone elaborate? thanks. Any other differences that potential buyers should be aware?

Smart Phone Idiot
Buying through Palm will give you unlocked which means it can be used on any GSM carrier.
Buying through Palm means you don't get a Treo with Cingular specific software. This could be a plus or a minus, depending on whether or not you want some Cingular specific services. (xpress mail comes to mind)
Buying through Palm unlocked means you aren't tied to the two year contract that Cingular binds you to . .
I think what you have been told is accurate. Unless they have recently changed their policy, Cingular will not insure PDA phones. Lose it or break it, and your out!!!!!
There are probably many other pluses and minuses . . I am sure others will help me out . .

Well, the main attraction to me was that I DIDN'T want a phone the same color as every other phone on the planet; I wanted the Crimson one.
Cingular only sells the silver one. If you want Copper (orange), Arctic (iPod white), or Crimson (red), you have to go through Palm.
