I know this is fixed but just to ask one last question ....do you have children? Pets? I have a daughter and I'm also a Sprint tech and I can tell you that even a second of any type of liquid touching the bottom contacts will cause this. My wife had it happen to her when the baby grabbed the phone and just touched it to her lips. I swapped it out and the next day the baby did it again. Now its 4 months later and the baby just did it to me last night.

So again, be mindful of any liquid near the bottom of your phone. I wish palm installed a cover so I can protect it when not in use

I am having the same continuous hotsync problem. What did you do to fix it. What did you mean by "I swapped it out".

Thanks in advance.

Exclamation

I've had the same exact thing happen to me. I had my phone sitting in the cupholder of my car just today. Halfway home I realized that it had the Hotsync connection error. I pressed OK, but I realized it's in a loop. I looked in my cupholder and noticed that there was a small amount of liquid. This is what probably shorted my phone.

As a previous poster said, once I actually connect it to my PC, it stops the loop and can successfully sync. Once I disconnect though, it starts back up, even after a soft reset.

@Bugme: Would a hard reset fix this, or is this phone f***ed?

Default Fixed on its own

My phone seems to be working fine now...it had the continuous hotsync problem for a couple of days. I called up Sprint & Palm but they had no clues and both advised to take it to an authorized repair shop who will try to fix it or exchange it (it was still under warranty).

I guess the only solution is to completely dry out the connectors. I used hair dryer on the connectors at the bottom (though it did not fix the problem immediately)...but I guess phone slowly dried out in the summer weather.

Another friend of mine had a Blackberry which got submerged in a swimming pool. He found out online that putting in the oven for 3-4 hours (under 150 degrees) fixes it...and it really worked for his phone which looked dead at one time. Search online to find out more details about that solution.

For moisture problems time is usually the best. That and removing the battery and resisting the desire to see if it is working yet for at least 2-3 days.

The oven is a real risky proposition. It might work, but you may be asking if you want fries with that...

You could try placing the phone in a bag of uncooked rice. The rice will absorb moisture.

I have already had one Treo replaced because of this problem - and now the replacement Treo (which is NOT under warranty) is doing the same thing, although I can stop it after about five tries. I hope you find out the solution, otherwise I am buying myself a new device and it WONT be a Palm next time!
