No. You can make them invisible; but once there in ROM, always there in ROM. The solution: a ROM Tool - not yet available for the 680.

Obsfucate is a popular freeware program to hide unwanted things that are embedded in ROM

However much 'pointless crap' there is in ROM (AddIt springs immediately to mind) its not as if removing stuff in ROM will actually give you the equivalent space back to use for real user files. You'll just have ROM territory with empty space in it....
And simply hiding he stuff you wish wasn't there is simply wishfully anal...

At least by hiding them, you don't have to look at icons that you NEVER use everytime you look at your Treo! In my case, I gained an icon I rarely use, (obsfucate) and hid several that I never use (Quicktour, xpress mail, Card Info, Email, GetGood, SIM Book, and Sim Services) If launching from the "All" category, this actually makes your navigation quicker, because you have eliminated icons that take up precious screen real estate.

Ah, yes - the icons to useless things...
Well, if one doesn't have a Launcher program of an kind, allowing the user to choose their programs of choice to view (I migrated the simply adequate 'Favorites' launcher over from my TX) couldn't you simply create a Category called 'Most Used' (or whatever), choose the programs you want in that Category and then always open from that screen than 'All', thereby hiding all the crap icns you noted above - and so many more?
I'm not sure I 'get' the rationale for adding a program into the already limited memory of the Treo simply to stop the user from hyperventilating about the stuff they have no control over....
