Default Desperate, I need ringtones

I got this phone in June, not realizing that I cannot simply download ringtones from my carrier, AT&T. It is now Christmas and I seriously need a Christmas ringtone. I have spent hours trying to figure this out. I've read some posts about converting mp3s and I downloaded the minitones. I have windows vista and just downloaded a beta version of palm desktop that allows me to use quick install. Previously Vista didn't work with it. All I want are ringtones. Why is this so much to ask? I looked on the Palm software site and there are no programs with ringtones, only software to create it. Ok, so I paid for a few ringtones from Monster and they have a .aspx file that my computer doesn't know anything about. Could someone help me put a friggin Christmas tone on my phone. Please help, and assume I am totally computer illiterate.

Thanks,
Ms Desperate

first you have to create an *.mp3 of the ringtone you want, you can edit it to whatever length you like or use the whole thing. Then import that (I think it's best to load them on an SD). Then using either minitones or musictones (both of which are free) you import the *.mp3 into the ringtone file on the 680. Music tones allows you to choose which portion of the mp3 you want to play. It's really simple and easy using music tones and regular mp3 files.

Hey, thanks. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to try and help me. However.......that's still not enough for me. Where do you find ringtones? It seems like they all require a subscription. I just want a Christmas jingle. I downloaded one from monstertones or something like that, and the extension was aspx and my computer could not open it. I can't even figure out how to put music on my phone. I must sound like a real dummy and I don't normally have such problems but NOTHING IS WORKING. I printed out the instructions of how to put music on the phone and the instructions don't match my computer. Is Vista my problem?

Don't know anything about Vista, still an XP man. You don't need to download "ringtones" The 680 uses a proprietary (sp) ringtone file. What you do need to do is either rip your own mp3s from the cd's you have and edit them for length with something like Audacity or Wavepad both of which come in free versions. Then load those on you SD card. Open them in Music Tones. If you have just loaded unedited mp3s, you can then edit the length of the ringtone you create in Music Tones. You do this through the import button.

When you open MusicTones you see the SD card tree (directories) and three buttons. "Import," "Play" and "Manage." Start with the import and then choose the mp3 you want to use. You can use the whole thing or edit it at this point. It will automatically include it in the Treo ringtone file. You will be able to find it when youlook under "Manage"

Hope that helps. If not, we'll try again.
