Dropped my Treo, now I can't hear others talk
I just dropped my Treo and everything seemed ok, that was until I tried to make a call. The sound when it is connecting to make a call does not work (the dialing sound you hear when calling a number) and I can't hear anything that the other person says on the other line. What's weird is that the person can hear me when I talk. The other sounds do work, like when i select an object and play games. As of right now I can only make and receive calls from someone using my ear piece. Has anybody else encountered this problem or have any tips? I tried to plug my earphones in and out a lot and it has not worked and i'm not sure if that is an issue since my other sounds work. I have tried taking out the sim card and battery, but it still hasn't fixed the problems. Any tips or suggestions would be helpful. I don't want to be stuck using an ear piece forever. Thanks!

I wasn't able to fix it on my own. I had to send this in to Palm for them to fix.
I got back a new Palm, so make sure you don't leave on any screen protectors/important files on your Palm because you might be getting a different unit back.

Hi! I'm new at this but let me tell you I had a similar problem with my 680 and I read somewhere that if it isn't solved by plugging and unplugging the ear piece you could try blowing in the jack or even spray some electronic lube on the male connector and plug it in and out several times. Apparently it happens because the spring inside the jack gets jammed.
I hope it helps.

OK, quick update, still need help though.
Took the phone apart and looked at everything again. Everything seemed fine so i put it back together. Heres a more descriptive issue.
Speakerphone works fine.
Plug-in headphone works fine.
When you call someone just using the regular phone, you can't hear anything, but they can hear you.
Tried the phone jack trick (lube it up and insert a jack repetitively) with no luck. Warranty return is probably void because the phone was taken apart.
Any ideas?

Replace the mic. It happened to mine and new mic will sove the problem.

Thanks for the info. We got a new phone, but i will probably fix it for a back up for her
If the phone is a AT&T phone, is there any reason why she couldn't switch out the sim cards back and forth between the treo and her blackberry curve?

Not Being Able to Hear When Dialing Out
I would just like thank this thread. I was having the same problem and so I took the end of the earpiece, placed some lip ointment (as lubricant) and put it in and out of the earpiece socket. Miraculously it is now working! Thanks
:laugh3:

pull the battery
I see this problem twice a week. It seems to be a very, very common issue with the Treo 700wx. All I do is pull the battery, which power cycles the bloody thing, and amazingly, it works.
I am pretty impressed that using the earpiece to *jack* the jack works. Well done.
