I am a new owner of a Palm 680 and am rather befuddled by the way the 3rd party software works when installed.
I will install some software like LauncherX, or some nice contacts manager program. I save the files to my SD memory stick and then proceed with the installation. The icons for the programs show up in my "All" settings option and i will click on them. They then take over my interface and I am able to use the new interface. HOwever, if I select a hard button (say HOME), then I am taken back to the default Palm O/S interface, or if I select the CONTACTS from the Phone option then i am taken to the default Palm O/S contacts page. What gives? Am I doing something wrong? How can these 3rd part apps really be beneficial if they still cannot fully take over and replace the Palm OS default apps?
teslas, I am launcherx ignorant, but I figured you had to activate a default like you do in zlauncher. From their website:
Go to Launcher X Preferences. Check the box "Default Launcher".

i've tried that in the past, only got it to work one time. I found that many of the other programs i've tried and selected teh "default launcher" still are overridden by the Palm Os ...thoughts?
Sorry, no . . . As I said, I am not a Launcherx user. Just from my own experience with zLauncher. Have you tried it and did it do the same thing once you told it to default?

I too am not a LauncherX user, but there are 3 hard buttons on the 680 that can be programmed to open your chose of program and the control for this is in Prefs > Personal > Buttons and this may override controls within the software itself.
Now what you do mention is that you have loaded a 3rd Party software onto a SD card - and I'm not sure that the OS will let you set a Button to an 'external' program. You may need to install it directly into the Treo for that program to be 'seen' and work.
There are lots of good (and often free) 3rd Party programs out there, well worth the installation - but Palm doesn't always make them the most obvious to access...
