Default hard reset-what data is lost?

Is it possible to perform a hard reset, and then Hotsync, and not lose data?
If not, what data is lost?
My phone is working except for the Memos app-it reboots every time I access it.
    DbFixit didn't work.

A bit of advice here - when you execute a hard reset and then execute a standard hot sync, you bring the problem child right back to life on the device. So, if you have a problem and do decide to execute a hard reset, do not do the standard hot sync. The instead to do is a selective restore.

Now, the memos thing you mention as being the bad dude. You mention DBFixit, which is what I have used in the past. Did you register/pay and try it or just in the unregistered mode?

Another avenue to approach this is just to delete the memos database and start all over again.

Could it be something in the OS itself?
Memos started crashing about the same time I tried to delete the Push to Talk program.
I went through the motions of deleting it, but it's icon is still there, and the reprogrammed side button still accesses it.
I hate those icons that only take up space on my screen-Get This, TryThis, BuyThat...
    but that's another thread.
