help me unlock my phone question

ok. i have a treo 680 that is on ATT. however it just got turned off by my company and i own the phone. had i known it would have got turned off today i would have called and got an unlock code before we switched to sprint.

can i still get an unlock code from ATT?
what do i need to say?
and if not what should i do now?
my wifes 750 is on tmobile and its ready to take a dump. i would like to unlock my ATT 680 and give it to her to use. can someone help me sort this out and please the lady of the house?
i would really appreciate it.

Hi and welcome to ET:

You say you own the phone, so that is a good start. Do you know if the bills were paid up to date? If so you should call AT&T to ask they provide the unlock code. If your company (or you, or whomever paid the bills) was a customer for more than 90 days, they will usually provide the unlock code.

If not, there are many companies that unlock phones for a fee. One that I know is reputable and honest is Horizon Wireless Online. Note that if the phone was marked by AT&T as stolen or unpaid, they will be unable to obtain a code. They should not charge you if they can't do the unlock, but always read the fine print.

Finally, you mentioned Sprint. An AT&T phone will not work on the Sprint network....different technologies. TMo should operate, but you will need the TMo SIM card.

thanks stevetaz.her phone is tmobile and my treo was ATT so i think they should be able to work right? there is a sim in each. the bill was never missed and totally current. do i need to say anything particular since ive seen people write i need to say for world travel. yes i purchased the phone myself from ATT for a heafty sum. i love it. however my company switched to sprint today and her 750 is acting really funny. i would rather let her enjoy my 680 since i cant. does it matter if the phone no longer has service through ATT?thanks for the swift reply. dan

after 90 days they unlock on current accounts no problem. otherwise you will have to pay about 18 bucks to get it unlocked from a third party online.

sidenote - try doing a hard reset on the 750 and reinstalling everything could breathe new life into a mess.

Thanks Mal. I tried the hard reset and everything else i could find on her treo 750. the only thing i could see doing now is replace it with my 680 so my wife can stop yelling at me over that phone. the touch screen doesnt even work anymore. well it is off and on and doesnt have a screen protector on it either. do you have any suggestions on where i should go for a third party unlock. i thought each phone had a unique unlock code. will it stay unlocked if i buy a code. thanks.dan

Eidan you can buy new cases for your phone. Treo hardware. Google.

Re unlock - the site I used which did all they said they would - sent in time stated no problems at all. (except that I couldnt find it on net/torrents anywhere for free! lol)

Edit: Eidan I have a crazy idea.

If your leaving your 750 for dead....try this. Sync your 680 to desktop platform.

Do a hard reset on the 750 - erase everything. Then sync the 750 w the platform for your 680....I wonder ....
