The 680 doesn't have a stylus that unscrews, it doesn't have a Reset hole, and it doesn't have a Power button.

The Link referencing the Palm KB page also doesn't have any mention of Hard Rest for the Treo 680 and the 5-way up while re-inserting the battery doesn't seem to work at all.

Any other suggestions from someone who has actually done a Hard Reset or data wipe on a Treo 680?

    Thanks,
I just reset the 680 on my review unit, so I could send back to Palm.

Hold the power button. At the same time remove the battery and then place back in the Treo. Keep holding the power button. I never got to a second screen - it rebooted to the Palm screen and was then given the option to delete all data (aka, hard reset).

    Hi,

Just wanted to add that there is a Hard reset and then there is the Factory reset. The plain vanilla hard reset is for cleaning out the device so that someone else in your family can use it, or to troubleshoot an issue, etc.

The Factory reset is more severe. It requires that a password is set on the phone. It will reformat the memory on your device. All data, settings and other preferences you’ve selected will be removed.

The Factory reset is described in the Palm Knowledge Library article Performing a Factory Reset before your Palm device changes ownership or is sent away for repair.

The plain vanilla Hard reset (as well as the Factory) is described in the pdf versions of the User Guide in Chapter 11 "Common Questions" under the "Resetting Your Treo" heading.

The pdf's are available via Palm's main Support page. Pick your model/carrier from the drop-down box and on the next page you'll find links to the Guides along the right-hand side.

    Hope that helps.

    Sincerely
    Kevin

It took me forever to locate, but all these in-depth instructions are located on the CD-ROM that came with your 680. None of it was (is) on the Palm website.

It's where I found out how to do a hard reset a mere hour after opening my brand new 680. Apparently, my 600 had some apps/utils that crashed my 680 upon transfer.

    So, FWIW, RTFM!
