Is it just me, or have we all been duped by the 680's inferiority to the 600 and 650?
It seems the 680, although the newest device, doesn't support nor run anything that is of value to anyone. Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile-compatible headsets? Nope. Java VM out-of-the-box? Noppe.
This is a stupid device that meets nobody's needs. The only advantage this device has offered is the lack of the antenna stub. Other than that, I would classify it as a certifiable failure.
My 680's going to end up on Craigslist the day the iPhone is released. And from reading the various posts in this forum, I won't be alone.
What a crock. Ten years of development of the Palm OS gets you this? Sad.

Hello everyone. You may have already discussed this issue (or maybe it's what you're talking about in this thread and I'm just too computer-illiterate to realize it) but here's my problem. I "upgraded" to the Treo 680 recently, and soon realized I can't access many websites that I had no problem getting to on my 650. Specifically, sites where I have to input a username and/or password (e.g. Bank America, Evite, Myspace). Anyone else having this issue? Maybe this is what you're talking about with Java problems and changing browsers, I don't know... but anyone have suggestions? I've talked to Palm and Cingular about it and they act like I'm imagining things, but I've replaced my device and experimented on friends' 680's, still without success.

I wish I could give you the exact information...but I'm at work and can't read up right now. I did (imagine that, I'm a guy) read the manual this time around. There was something in it specifically about having to enter user/pass on websites. It's in there somewhere so please take a look. It could have been in a forum also though as I've been reading them since the day I sent the order in, and there are a lot of them. Look for stuff regarding Blazer, or text entry or the keyboard. Hope that narrows it. I usually like to give been answers (not sure this was an answer).

Success with Gmail and Java and 680
I've successfully loaded the Websphere microenvironment provided by Palm (which they reckon only executes on the 600 and 650, but they are wrong). Installation following Palm's instructions and a soft reset sorted that.
Gmail was easy enough to install but only if you install the right one. If you follow Google's instructions, you download version 1.1.1, which causes an "exception.missing strings.dat" error when you try and run it. If you download version 1.1.0, it runs cleanly so it looks like 1.1.1 is broken.

Ps. when you get to the username/password screen, you have to press the centre button on the 5-way navigation button thingy to be able to enter your details. It's all button controlled...looks like they haven't implemented touch-screen technology in Java yet.
Enjoy!

Could you help me with the link. Everytime I go to the support site and fill in the form requesting download, it takes me to the license page and then does nothing after I agree. Anyone willing to upload websphere for the 680 for us who can't access it for some reason?
Cheers!

That's the exact page I went to Ben. I wonder if there is a compatibility issue with the 680. Anyway, Blazer works just fine for now so I guess I am going to stick with it.
